Terrible joke, but at least Herbie got a mention, so I'll allow it.

Is tonight's game going to be played?

Also, Heyward on the new-fangled 10-day DL (retro back to May 6th) w/ sprained finger on right hand.

@ESPNChiCubs any word on if Eddie Butler or Mike Montgomery will take Andersons spot or will it be a 4 man or 4 man then all bullpen day?

I had hoped that Haap might get called up to take Heyward's spot for the next week, but with all the relief pitchers getting used so much over the Yankees series, I guess another arm made more sense for now. Fortunate they got the day off yesterday with the rainout.

Words spoken by Caesar as he get's a knife in the back from a guy he considered a friend. It's as infamous as Reinsdorf calling Harry & Jimmy "Scum of the earth" during a division clinching celebration.

Candelario was already up last year, so his clock had already started. You won't see Happ until about June 17, which is when Contreras got called up last year.

There's an easy mostly road stretch starting June 16, @Pirates, Padres, @Marlins, @Nats, @Reds, Rays, Pirates, then ASB. You'll see either Happ or the guy they trade him for at some point during that stretch.

how is a guy like Bruce Levine not making up rumors about the Cubbies and White Sox in talks for Quintana?

Copied this January prospect ranking list from the bleed cubbie blue page. Does anybody see the Cubs bringing up any of the pitching prospects to help the big league team? It's about time to start phase 2 right?

1. OF Eloy Jimenez (12th overall on Law’s Top 100 list)
2. 2B Ian Happ (63rd overall)
3. RHP Dylan Cease (86th overall)
4. OF Albert Almora Jr.
5. RHP Oscar de la Cruz
6. RHP Trevor Clifton
7. 3B Jeimer Candelario
8. OF Eddy Martinez
9. RHP Thomas Hatch
10. RHP Jose Albertos
11. 2B Carlos Sepulveda
12. C/1B Victor Caratini
13. OF D.J. Wilson
14. OF Mark Zagunis
15. OF Donnie Dewees
16. 2B Chesny Young
17. SS Isaac Paredes

Not really. I think there was some mention of de la Cruz maybe but Cease is still A ball. Cliftom maybe. He's in AA but I think most ETA's are 18-19.

Theo went one way rather than the other. He chose to gamble on the pitching. He is not really wrong but he needs pitching now.

Cease will be a starter but in 2019.

Johnson may be able to fill a bullpen role later in the year. Clifton and Hatch need seasoning before they can help out of the pen.

Candelario, Zagunis, and Martinez should be sufficient to acquire one more quality starter for now and to replace Lackey in 2018. It looks like they can rope-a-dope the last reliever position with Grimm, Pena, Zaz, and Floro all riding the Iowa Shuttle.

I think that if he hadn't gotten himself killed, Jose Fernandez would have been a Cub before Spring Training, in exchange for a deal headlined by Baez and Jimenez.

I didn't say an ace. I mean a guy at Lackey's level, only a little younger. If KC had a decent starter, they could use Candelario to replace Hosmer or Moustakas when those guys get traded.

Courtesy of ESPN's Jesse Rogers...

The Cubs will option Justin Grimm to Triple-A Iowa to make room for pitcher Eddie Butler who will start on Friday against the Cardinals. Butler will face Mike Leake then Jon Lester will take on Carlos Martinez and Jake Arrieta opposes Adam Wainwright in the finale on Sunday. The Grimm move means infielder Jeimer Candelario will stay with the Cubs.

Ian Happ may be added to #Cubs today as short-term call up because of injuries (Russell, Jay, Bryant etc). Stay tuned

I wonder how much more Gerrit Cole would cost versus guys like Archer, Quintana, or Gray.
