The limited no trades clauses give the player a negotiation point to accept the trade. It creates an opportunity for the buying team to pick up an option or extend the contract... sweeten the pot if you will.

Talk about a waste of money...3.5m for this bum to pitch 22 innings and an ERA over 8. But then you look at last year when the Dodgers gave him a one year deal at 16m and he only pitched 11 innings (ERA of almost 12) and it doesn't feel so bad.
