They just aren't hitting with men on base, plenty of opportunities and they choke. Jake hasn't looked good in 25 maybe 30 starts...even when his era looked good last season he was throwing 115 pitches in 5 innings.

Need to move Schwarber out of the one hole, get another starter, send Candelario back to the bush league where his bum ass belongs, get Happy more at bats.

Not only should Schwarber not be leading off anymore but like IMU said, he shouldn't be starting everyday either. It's not April anymore.

At least we could somewhat understand playing Heyward all the time last season because eventhough he couldn't hit he's pretty much perfect at every other aspect of the game.

This is just inexcusable right now. Let the guy sit for a week.

Plus the fact they are not going to bench their $23m per year player.

I heard on the radio this morning that the Cubs have had more men on base than anybody else in the league and scored the fewest .

This is true. They also are playing worse defense than ever imagined could be possible. Usually it all turns back around but sometimes it does not.

That works for me. I will gladly deal with bullshit if it means several championships.

I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about Maddon right now. They won the WS and I am still thrilled with that.

It is the middle of May. I dont see any reason to freak out about this team right now. They have not even come close to playing as they are capable and they are still around .500. If we get into the summer and the same things are happening then that may change.

Maddon is one of the 10 best managers ever. Way better than Dusty and a notch below Leyland. I hope he can right the ship because they need a leader right now and Joe is hands off but might need to be a bit more hands on as this season progresses.

The defense is horseshit, that's not something that can be blamed on two long seasons in a row, it's inexcusable.

A few things about that. Somehow the Cubs were able to put together an elite defense last season with a bunch of guys who, other than Heyward and Russell, are less than elite. Did you think that could continue? Additionally, all of the moving around of guys to various positions on various days isn't exactly the blueprint for defensive success over the long term. It worked last season. Finally, you have Babe Schwarber in the lineup now and he is automatically the worst defender in any game he is in.

Right Jorr. They said it a couple times yesterday on the score about their historic defense last year. I can't remember the stat they used exactly but it was some ungodly high percentage of outs per chance or something like that. For a variety of reasons they are not going to be the same as last year with regression to the mean likely the easiest to assume. That is not their complete problem this year but I think they said they are now giving the opposition many more outs per game as compared to last year.

Maybe it was lightning in a bottle or maybe they really were a year early in winning it. Either way this is certainly not the same team as last year.

I didn't think they'd be the best D in MLB again, I thought they'dbe top 10, even with that butcher from Bakersfield in Left. They are the worst D in mlb.

Many here held that his defense would not make much of a difference to this team. They could absorb it. Ouch. It especially hurts when there is Mendoza level offense out of him and a manager that is so fucking stubborn he won't sit him or move him to 6,7 or 8.

Maybe for a multitude of reasons, they are just not that good a team this season. The Cubs would have win 72 of their remaining 125 games to get to 90 wins. Based on what you have seen since Opening Day, do you really think this Cubs team can play at a .576 clip for 4+ months?

I get that there isn't a reason to completely freak out yet and were barely at 20% of the season played, but there are definitely more than a couple of reasons to be concerned about this team.

They get healthy on this homestand and Maddon will be hailed as the steady hand who righted the ship by all these people who are now deriding him.

Neither position will be correct.

Maddon on Spiegel and Parkins just now, said Kyle Schwarber is his leadoff hitter, "and why shouldn't he be?"

Of course, both guys hosting creamed their shorts.

I think they should start taking calls during that segment. Maybe I could remind Joe Maddon about the reasons he gave for Dexter Fowler being such a great leadoff guy, and ask him if he currently sees Schwarber doing any of those things.

Maddon gets awfully testy at the mere suggestion that he is not a genius. That is a strange sensitivity for a 65 year old guy who is generally held in high regard.
