Is this a trade you want to see the Cubs make before the trade deadline this season?

Absolutely: can't field, can't hit for average, get whatever pitching you can get

As of now, yes.

Now that he's out of the leadoff spot, if he starts hitting I can live with the bad defense and might change my mind.

I could never be a GM though. I get too emotionally attached to players. They're my friends.

I would need to know more about what pitcher.

If it is Quintana then no way.

For some other pitchers I would consider it.

I'd call Quintana a #3 , it would take more than Schwarber for Q straight up. I'm all for moving him or Baez for a starter, there are guys to take their position over right now.

They should probably be looking to trade super awesome five position player Ian Happ while he is on a hot streak as well.

Per unnamed GM sources, teams value Schwarber and Baez much more than Happ at this point in time. Since Happ can replace either of those positions, it would make sense for the Cubs to keep Happ through this season.

2015: 8th best WAR in AL, 2016: 3rd best WAR in AL....

that is better than a #3 pitcher

I would trade Schwarber straight up for Quintana. Without hesitation.

Everyone should. This shouldn't even be a question. 3+ years of an all star pitcher in his prime versus 4+ years of a hitter at the beginning of his career. I'd like to hear someone make a case otherwise.

He should. "Babe" missed last year with an injury and has sucked this year. It would take a lot more to get Quintana.

Doesn't it kind of matter who the hitter is?

We know who the pitcher is, an "All Star" pitcher which mean's he's good and we know he's in his prime.

We don't know who the hitter is in your hypo, some anonymous hitter at the beginning of his career, there some hitters who had all star careers at the beginning of their careers. {Note, Kyle Schwarber, is not one of those hitters.}

Long before Schwarber was hitting below .200 I was on board with the Schwarber + package for Quintana.

Problem though, you read how Theo feels about Schwarber and it's hard not to think that he's less than objective on this.

schwarber value at all-time-low. He needs to go to the minors and work his way back. Cubs have enough pieces to fill the 25 man roster w/o schwarber on it.

I was on board for moving Schwarber last year, you can only really hide him @ first base..we need pitching, have enough bats.

Agreed that this is academic. Theo isn't trading Schwarber, it would take more than him to get Quintana and the Sox are more interested in guys with the full six years of control in any exchange.
