DFA Peralta. He seriously has no point on a MLB roster at this juncture

You think Matheny told him to groove a batting practice fastball on he first pitch?

You're probably right, but it's frustrating when we have 3 LH in the pen down there

I can understand what Matheny is thinking there tho.

If you take out Leake for a lefty, you probably do not face Schwarber. With the way Schwarber has been going, wouldnt you rather face him?

I don't know if you can blame Matheny. You have to pitch to the guy hitting .170 rather use the lefty against a better pinch hitter

Brilliant move by Joe having Schwarber in the 9 hole too

Yep, and what RFDC said. The only thing Kyle can do well right now is swing hard at a fastball. Reap what you sew.

Good win. Need the sweep tomorrow night. Great catch by Heyward too in the 8th. Imagine Soler trying to catch that? It's a double...

Before Saturday afternoon’s game, the Kansas City Royals optioned right-handed outfielder Jorge Soler to AAA Omaha, recalling right-handed outfielder Billy Burns to take his roster spot in Kansas City. Soler had functionally been replaced in the lineup by rookie Jorge Bonifacio, a fellow right-handed corner outfielder who has been hitting very well over the past weeks. Soler had only started one game since May 23, only playing in two. The desire to get Soler regular plate appearances was an important reasoning in his demotion.

Omaha plays at Iowa in two weeks. That should be fun.

Based on Joe's comments before the game and his lineup moves since they started losing in LA, it seems that Baez, Schwarber, and Russell are fighting for the PA at two positions (with Zobrist floating back and forth between 2B/LF). Russell appears to have been demoted from "everyday starter" at this point.

As well he should be. Production matters now. We are past the "early" point now. Got to put a streak together and start winning on a consistent basis.

Certain posters thought it was very funny that I didn't think Addison Russell was a star right now. Two months later and he's not even an everyday starter?

Well, I think you're right in that Russell isn't nearly the player most Cub fans fantasize about, but I do believe he's less than 100% healthy right now.

Sample size enough now to know what he is though. >230 hitter with very little power. Slick fielder but perhaps the A's knew who he really was. I concur that he looks like something is bothering him health wise.

Waves of talent. Repeated bites at the apple. Making the most of market inefficiencies.

Or maybe they are just a baseball team on the score?

This looks like an 84 win team.

Cubs look like a 94 win team playing like an 84 win team. I'll laugh my ass off if both teams lose the division by one game to the Brewers.

Anything is possible. But I just don't think the Brewers have the pitching to hang around all season.

Big sweep tonight, bats should explode and knock in a heap of runs.
