Tonight may have been the ugliest game of the year.
Last night's ninth was the ugliest inning of the year.

Inexcusable night for Montero. Both on the field and off.

I'd be fine if he was jettisoned.

Nats were 7-for-7 stealing bases. It was embarrassing. I think all of them happened in the first 4 or 5 innings.

Then this happened:

You might get your wish ....

Montero: "It really sucks because the stolen bases go on me. And when you really look at it, the pitcher doesn’t give me any time.”

https://twitter.com/CSNMooney/status/879896963193462788
Montero: "It's just like: 'Yeah, OK, Miggy can’t throw nobody out.' Yeah, but my pitchers don’t hold anybody on.”

https://twitter.com/CSNMooney/status/879897983474597888
Miggy: “If I don’t get a chance to throw, that’s the reason why they were running left and right today, because they know (Jake) was slow."

Montero: "It’s a shame that it’s my fault because I didn’t throw anybody out."

Yeah, Montero comes off terrible there. Even if everything he said is true, you can't say that.

it's just unwritten code to take the heat yourself. even if you know you didn't do anything wrong, you will always look like the better person for it.

montero isn't good enough a player to be this much of a diva.

Leave Montero alone. One of the few consistent bats the Cubs have. Let him rip those prima donna pitchers. One guy can't even throw to first and the other one doesn't care to. That's nice.

I'd like to know is what do they work on those 4 off days they get. Maybe Maddon is happy he has one rabble rouser on the team.

 Jimmy, thats great.

Maybe Miggy was kind of like, "fuck it if Jake can blame sweat and he sucks, might as well call him out." I don't really disagree with anything Montero said, but yeah that has to stay in house.

Also, the great sage Joe Maddon should be stepping in to intervene with Montero.

Jake has been exposed, and I am glad it's before the Cubs gave him a large contract. His delivery is awful, and the drop in his velocity makes him hittable. Jake doesn't seem to have any clue where the ball is going to go after it leaves his hand.

It wasn't that long ago that Jake was some Duncan Keith-like super human that had to be using roids. Now he looks like a lost, tired pitcher that can't throw hard to locate a pitch.

Lets not forget that the reason the Nats were able to steal 7 bases is because Jake put the fucking runners there to begin with .

Yes, that's exhibit A. Some pitchers just ignore base runners to focus on the batters. But then you have to use that focus to get the batters out. It's mostly on Jake.

Montero has not thrown a guy out attempting a steal all year. He has one pickoff.

Arrieta is slow, and always has been. We know this.

But this is a case of attempted misdirection. Contreras can (and has) thrown caught multiple guys stealing when catching Arrieta.

Arrieta pitched brutally last night. Doesn't change the fact that Montero no longer has an arm. His throw to third was one of the slowest throws I had ever seen a catcher make to a base, and it was also 10+ feet off the bag.

Fair assessment. But Arrieta remains the real problem. Montero is a back up catcher.
