Why does a single wildcard game count as a playoff series win for the Cubs, but game #163 is not a playoff series win for the Sox?

Game 163 is called game 163 because it was not a part of the postseason.

A wildcard game is not a series.

It is a postseason game that determines the team that advances versus the team that does not advance. I won't argue that it isn't a series as that would ignore the very definition of the word. But it is a round within the postseason. "Game 163" was not.

Why are you even trying to act like a one game playoff tiebreaker is different than a wildcard one game playoff? It was created specifically because of those games.

This shows you guys are no better than Frank in terms of bias.

The very definition of "post season" means game(s) that are played after the regular season is completed. Game 163 and the Wild Card game both qualify as this.

The Wild Card Game is not a "round" within the postseason, it is one single game.

There is no bias. This is a fact.

Game 163 was not a postseason game. It did not count toward postseason statistics. The loser never made the MLB playoffs.

The Wild Card round is a postseason game that determines the team that gets to advance to the Division Series.

Do you want to call all of the teams that just missed the playoffs before the Wild Card era postseason teams as well?

Game 163 was considered a regular season game. The game's result was added to the team's season W-L records and statistics compiled during the game were regular season statistics.

How foolish do you want to look? I feel you got at least three more posts on this subject. Keep them coming.

It too place after(post) the season(season). It clearly was a playoff game. They modeled the wild card playoff DIRECTLY on it and because of it.

Why even fight this?

Huh? It undeniably was a playoff by any definition. The "post-season" is a little bit more of an arguable thing but once again, why do you care?

The Cubs have been better the last 10 years. If you are going to hold the wild card one game playoff over them though then expect the one game playoff the Sox played to also be brought up.

IMU's argument is correct, but it doesn't matter. The results for the last ten years speak for themselves.

for the record books, "Game 163" is considered part of the regular season. but, the argument of which is post season after that is futile. the loser of the wild card game doesn't make it into the playoffs just like the loser of "Game 163" didn't. it just becomes semantics at that point. but i think it definitely spawned the creation of that second wild card team. and *now* it's considered part of the post season.

just like the "play in" games of the NCAA tournament are now considered part of the tournament.

So did the Cubs win the series again the Nationals? Did the Yankees win the Series vs the Sox?

I might have lost a single post. But according to Cubs fans, losing or winning one game is a series so...yeah I don't know what the fuck you guys are talking about.

Maybe one person called the Wild Card game a series?

But it is a round and that isn't debated. A round doesn't have to be multiple games per team. A round of drinks is one drink per patron.
