https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Chicago_Cubs_season

The 2004 Chicago Cubs season was the 133rd season of the Chicago Cubs franchise, the 129th in the National League and the 89th at Wrigley Field. The Cubs finished 89-73, good for 3rd in the NL Central. Despite the strong record, the Cubs faltered down the stretch and missed the playoffs, and the season is largely viewed as a disappointment as a result

Bernstein told you that Theo didn't intend to make the playoffs this year

Yup. Remember they gave up a opposite field walk off hr to some Mets scrub that grew up a Cubs fan. Guy couldn't hit a curveball but Barrett called FB 3 times in a row and that was the season. I remember seeing that hr go out and get that same dreaded Cubs loser feeling like in 84/03.

If it happens again this year I won't feel as bad since they finally won it all last year.

Man Prior was great to watch when he was healthy.

The only difference, and it's a huge one, is there's no weight of 96 years without a title on this team

Also no chip Caray and Steve Stone to ruin the season

ya the cubs learned their lesson that year to hire homers in the booth. Didnt Len Kasper recently defend Schwarber?

This is a huge difference too.

Also, in 2004 by this point in the season I hated the team. I still like this team and enjoy watching them.

This Cubs team would be lucky to have the season the 2004 Cubs had

I saw a cub commercial where Kasper won some kind of broadcast award. Was he the only candidate?

I don't watch Cub games unless national or vs Pirates so I don't hear Kasper. If his score appearances are any indication he is every bit the homer Hawk is. Just different styles.

That was the legendary Team With No Weaknesses.

I think both broadcasters(Cubs/Sox) are kept in a lane via ownership in terms of being "critical" on the team.

No disrespect, but are you guys nuts? Hawk is the biggest ass kisser since Jack Brickhouse who never uttered a negative word about the Cubs.

I've got to hand it to the Tampa radio crew - they will sit there and eviscerate the Rays when the team is playing stupid baseball, or when a player doesn't seem to be working on fixing a known weakness. Absolutely no mercy. Howie Rose of the Mets' broadcast team can be that way as well if he's in a bad mood. Very little baseball is more enjoyable than listening to the Mets slowly lose a game 5-1 and have Howie get more and more pissed.

Howie Rose was fantastic with the Islanders. Same thing, ripped anything that sucked, all the way up to Count Bettman himself. I hope he comes out of hockey retirement if/when they move back to Nassau.
