Might they move Russell to 2B next year? Baez seems to be blooming as the every day SS. He certainly has the superior arm and offensively his numbers look pretty darn good for a middle INF.

I think he had an out for the year setback. They said its not day to day and he is headed to the specialist in Chicago. He sucked ass all year anyways. They might need to add a defensive infielder now for depth.

Hope they don't have to burn a 40 man roster spot unless Russell goes to the 60 day DL. Not sure if how long he's been out.

Yea Grimm has to be damn close to being a DFA guy so may as well 60 day his sorry ass.

Baez should be the every day SS. It's not that Russell sucks with the glove. He's good. But Baez has the potential to be the best defensive SS in the game. And SS is the most important defensive position in the game. So why wouldn't you leave him there? Russell could be the best 2nd baseman in the league.

i remember Russell last post season had some big HRs. LA game 3 and WS Game 6.

He can bulk up and hit more home runs from 2b and it will ease the workload on his shoulder which is still jacked up.

As far as defensive goes it doesn't matter which is SS and which is 2nd. I assume the front office has enough metrics to maximize the value when they play at the same time.

The bigger question is when Happ or Lastella's bat warrants a starting second base job, which one you keep.

I think La Stella is good enough to be a solid every day 2B on most teams. I expect the Cubs to consider trading him this offseason with the emergence of Happ. He is under control until 2020, though.

I'd keep Happ, but tell him to go up one size on the uniform. Looks constricted, like 10 pounds of potatoes in an 8-lb bag.
