So if they do close the deal, its almost a certainty they play Washington

Would this be the plan?

Scherzer vs. Lester @ WAS
Strasburg vs Arrieta @ WAS

Gonzalez vs. Hendricks @ Theotown
Roark vs. Lackey/Qunitana @ Theotown

Scherzer vs Lester @ WAS

Why would Lester be pitching the first game? Arrieta has been the better pitcher in 2017 and especially since the All Star game. Hell, he was pitcher of the month in August for the National League.

Because I think that's the way Joe will go.

And Lester is lefty, and has more experience, and doesn't have an ouchy hamstring.

The only way that makes sense, is that Lester is left handed and might have better luck facing Harper and Murphy. It is also a reason Montgomery might be considered over Lackey in a series VS Washington.

They'd start Quintana in that case, not Montgomery. Montgomery will be in the pen barring injuries.

I would go with Jake game 1 but Joe has an affinity and trust in Lester and I think he'll go with him.

I see Quintana or Montgomery in the series. Just depends on how each pitches in their next few starts. Quintana looked like a guy I wouldn't even have on the playoff roster for a while. But his last 2 starts were good and he has to be considered if he can stay sharp down the stretch. Montgomery is really the only lefty that has been dependable out of the bullpen this season, with Justin Wilson being a big disappointment, so maybe he has to stay in the pen. he has shown that he can handle that role well too.

Duensing is left-handed.

Yeah and in low leverage situations he has been really good and overall had a better than anticipated season. But I sure as hell wouldn't trust him against Murphy and Harper.

This season, Duensing has his best stats in "High Leverage" situations. In 18 games, covering 32 plate appearances, he has given up 6 hits and 1 walk. All 6 hits were singles. .426 OPS against.

In 4 appearances against Harper and Murphy, he gave up one double. The double wasn't this season, where he has been flawless against the Nationals, giving up nothing to them in four appearances covering about 4 innings.

Thanks for playing.

I'd start Wade Davis and ask him if he could "save" 9 innings.

Yeah that is what Joe will do.

Frustrating that they traded their best prospect for a guy that may not even be part of the playoff rotation.

If Quintana can't get a start against a team who's best hitters are left handed over john Lackey......Theo will look very foolish for making that deal. Lackey has done what was expected of him for the most part. he gives his team a chance to win more often than not. But he no longer should be looked upon to win big games against teams that feature top left handed hitters. That said, with Quintana (like a box of chocolates) you never know what you're gonna get. I would have Arrieta pitch game 1, Lester game 2, Hendricks 3, Quintana 4 and not even have Lackey on the first round playoff roster. No sense in having a 5th starter on the playoff roster, Montgomery is perfectly capable of going long if a starter should go down with an injury.

They got to get there first. Not going to be easy after blowing that 5 game lead.
