At least 3/36 if not 3/45 or 4/60. Agreed, they are fucked without a lock down closer.

Yeah, 3/36 would be a steal...so he's gotta get more than that. 4/60 doesn't sound that bad either, even if he craps out after 3.

There ought to be at least 4 or 5 new faces in that bullpen too.

Keepers:

Q
Hendricks
Lester
Edwards

Must retain:

Davis

Jake is likely long gone. Everyone else is a question mark or definitely gone, in my book.

You are not going to make it back to the NLCS with those three at the top of the rotation. Only way that works is if you invest in the bullpen and copy the L.A. model for the playoffs.

That is my issue with the Cubs rotation. It's good, perhaps very good, but there's no ace. It could win a division, perhaps the WS again if things break right, but Lester will be a year older, and as good as Hendricks/Quintana can be, I just don't view them in that top group, even if they are capable of going on runs and/or beating other teams top pitchers. Tough call here though. These guys are really good, but is it good enough to beat the elite teams?

I think it was on Kaps show or maybe it was W&S but there’s some site out there that predicts what free agents will sign for and they had Jake at 4/100. I’d do that in a minute. I think he wants years and money though and someone will go 5/150 6/175 I’m betting .

Well, Jake's only 32...this is his one big payday. 6/150-210 is probably what he's after. 4/100 would be an easy re-sign. It's not going to be easy.

Murph was saying on his show this morning that the Cubs are in the lead to sign Yu Darvish. After the WS, I don't think I'd want him on the club.

I dont see that happening.

But in Yu's defense there are a lot of reports out that he was tipping pitches really bad in his 2 WS starts and that lead to him getting kicked around. That is easily fixable.

The site I referenced in the post above had Darvish getting biggest pitcher deal of the off season. I don’t want him , especially when the knock on him is rattles easily. No thanks

Interested in Darvish but it depends on cost. Would rather get Arrieta back.

I'm also a no on Darvish. Maybe they are trying to drive up his price and stick someone else with bad paper.

I agree but what are the options? Sign Cobb as a #3/#4 and then Montgomery as a #5? Crazy money on Arrieta or Darvish and hope they are your ace? I don't want Darvish and Arrieta only if the money works.

The Cubs will have to luck into having a pitcher or two dominate like Scherzer, Strausburg, or Kershaw in a short series which is very unlikely. You have to hope that Hendricks and Quintana pitch at their peak when the playoffs arrive and that the bats hit. With the volatility of bullpens from year-to-year it is definitely cheaper to rebuild the pen than trying to match the arms of Washington and Los Angeles. Resign Davis, sign a couple arms to replace Rondon, Grimm, and Duensing, and hope that Edwards and Wilson rebound. I think that is the best option for the Cubs.

Lorenzo Cain hasn't led off since '14 but I've been his name as @Cubs leadoff possibility for months. Possible if Kyle Schwarber traded.

Heard some of the Cain stuff as well. Think it would have to be a fairly short contract and to play a corner. Almora needs to be playing everyday. Was hearing talk of bringing Jay back possibly.

It is funny how the sentiment regarding Jake has changed. Not too long ago the consensus was let Jake go. Now it seems to be swinging to bring Jake back.

If the 4 yr 100 mil contract speculation is true of the market then I think its a no brainer to sign him.

He is a bulldog when it matters. Darvish is not. End of story.

No doubt I would much rather have him on the mound in a big game than Darvish.

I don't get this speculative $ number for darvish and Jake. As its stated its Darvish to the cubs 6 $160. Jake to the Crew 4 $100.

I would pay jake 100 over 4 without thinking twice.

Where are you seeing this speculation?

If Jake goes to the Crew for 4/100 I am going to be really pissed off

mlb trade rumors had a top 50 free agents and where they thought they would land thread. I am convineced their jake number is completely off base. If its 100/4 its guaranteed with the cubs. In reality its going to be 150/6 for some shitbird tea.

I haven't changed my tune, we've seen his best and his era and whip have gone up 3 straight years, wins have gone down and losses up, innings down. ...he's getting older and i don't want the cubs to give him any multi year deal.

Well, this seals it...I definitely want to resign him.

I highly doubt anyone is in the lead this early. The market will determine who's in the lead. If/when the Cubs offer the most about of money, they will be in the lead.

Sounds like Murphy read something and ran with it as a Cubs talk.
