Playing where? Platooning with Almora and then playing RF versus RHP, sitting Heyward?

Then you don't get Harper in 2019 for sure? Seems like a bad move.

you're missing my point.

And Kyle should hope to have a career like Dunn, although he played in an extreme hitters park in Cinci.

That's why I said "package". Lots of bad contracts out there.

What they should do, is talk to Heyward's agent and tell him that Heyward will probably not start for the Cubs in 2018 and they would like for him to use the clause in his contract to opt out of the remaining years. If he will do so, the Cubs will give him 30-40 million dollars just for opting out. They would have to eat more than that if they traded him away, so why not?

Heyward's not going anywhere. And not just because of the contract.

You're not making a point. What point are you trying to make? That it is better to have a worse player in the middle of a 'title window' because he is younger, with no guarantees he will ever become as good or better. Or that you shouldn't care because he is "only" a left fielder?

Yeah Heyward is not going anywhere. That is wishful thinking at best.

Almora should be given the leadoff and CF job.

The focus should be on pitching. Get at least one starter, perhaps two. And find some other arms for the bullpen. I would look at Cashner. I think he could be a good bullpen arm.

Schwarber is a tough one for me. He had been my favorite player on this team for the last 3 years. So I admit I have a bias towards him. This past year was bad. I am not ready to give up on his bat yet and I tend to agree with RPB that you can deal with his bad glove if he can hit.

Left or center field?

Im assuming any trade for him will include either Almora or Schwarber.

I dont what to say about Harper. History has shown early predictions on huge free agents (many of them being "he wants to play for ____") end up useless.

planning to get Harper sounds really really stupid.

Even if Harper himself said today "I'm coming to Chicago"

Then forget Bryce Harper, and just plan on having solid cash to spend in December 2018.

No surprise but according to Paul Sullivan, Arrieta already has his house for sale here.

Something really nasty happened with Arrietta and the Cubs camp..you never even got the "dog and pony" show stuff like "We'd love to have Jake back if both sides can reach a deal". They talked like he was gone for a while now.

The Cubs are about to give him $140M. Why would he stay in that shabby ole place? Dude is going to buy Mike North's place.

If they don't get a stallion at the top of that rotation they are going to be in trouble.

Anibal Sanchez released by the Tigers. Right up Theo's alley. Another 1 year, low money reclamation contract.

Remember when they went hard at Anibel Sanchez and he signed for 5/80 with the Tigers? Then they took that money and signed EJax for 4/52? Yeah, good times.

I hate this Ian Happ trade talk. I don't think people realize he was a rookie. I trade Bryant before I'd trade him. FUCK IT

I still remember Theo's quote: "We got a little ahead of ourselves on that one."

And now they have the right field version of EJax.

I heard this was being discussed:

Cubs get:
Stanton
Gordon

Marlins get:
Heyward
Schwarber
Russell or Baez
Almora or Happ

Do you do it?

So how much cash would the Cubs have to eat on the Heyward deal? Florida is trying to cut payroll. And I sure as hell don't want Zobrist at 2nd every day.

Take Russell, Baez, and Almora off the table then it's a done deal for me.

Well, hell yea. I'd do that in a heartbeat.

The other 3 wouldn't get that deal done.

My ideal cubs move is sign Machado and move Bryant to left. Machado > Stanton. Any move that gets Schwarber n Jhey outta here is good.

Gordon would be at second. Big upgrade. The Marlins would be getting a lot of salary relief in that deal even if they have to pay Heyward.

So Manny Machado IN and I presume Stanton OUT cuz you wanna keep room for Bryce Harper to come, right?

Call me old fashioned but I'd rather have stanton than Harper, but hey what I'm reading here is kind of pie in the sky.... Cuz seriously what's stopping the cubs from adding Machado Stanton AND Harper?

Pitching wise I think adding Kershaw, scherzer, and maybe one of the mets guys (Syndergaard or Degrom) makes a lot of sense. Then you'll definitely wanna tack on Andrew Miller, maybe that closer from Tampa, and then upgrade your reclamation project (Eddie Butler) with someone like Glasnow, then since Arrieta is going you can replace him with someone with a proven October track record, say, Bumgarner?

So yeah a cubs rotation of Kershaw, Scherzer, Hendricks, Bumgarner, [Syndergaard/deGrom] with Glasnow there as #6 to go along with that outfield of Harper, Almora, Stanton and then an IF of Bryant, Machado, [Baez/Russell/Cano], then Rizzo... And yeah I think you got something going there, assuming that you're able to add 1-2 bullpen arms after Andrew Miller and the Tampa closer. #GoCubsGo!!!!
