I thought this team would be back in the LCS again. I thought it was the Nats year from jump.

I was disappointed, but not now and not these playoffs. Who this team is has been quite evident from late April. A team that missed a crucial piece from last year (2016 form Fowler) and whose pitching came back to earth. There are some parallels with the Lofton-less '04 Cubs but this team is much more likable and hey, they won a WS last year.

They still have a good young core, Bryant, Rizzo, Happ, Russell, the catcher who shall not be named who decides now for two playoffs in a row to become a bunter and who visits the mound every other pitch, Hendricks, sigh......Baez, etc. They should have enough money to pay for some pitching, it's just a question of whether Theo can pick the right ones (jury still out on bullpen acquisitions).

I think they'll win one, doubtful they win both at home and season over. I'm not nearly as upset as '08, and never will be as beside myself as I was in '04.

just read up on this thread.

we cub fans, who have watched almost every game this team has played this year, knew what kind of team this was. they always had difficulty defeating good teams. I'm not talking about Mil and STl, those don't count, but teams in the West and East.

They lucked out beating the Nats. They really lucked out winning the division. They've overachieved.

Did they have glimpses of last year this year? yes, but not many. I think most of us hoped they could get the the WS but I don't think any of us really thought it would be a reality. And with the bullpen going to complete shit these playoffs, I still don't know how we're in the LCS.

But this team got this far. give them credit for that. But I don't think many fans here who watched almost every game and series truly believed they would make it back to the WS this year.

That almost made me poop my pants.
