John Lackey says he want to pitch again in 2018. What do you think Cub fans? Sign him or not?
I've heard a couple of players say he is the best teammate they have ever had.
Great clubhouse guys are hard to find, aren't they?
I don't think you can do much better for a #5 starter.

I really liked the little of Tseng I saw in his two starts.
He's got some electric stuff but lacks consistency.
Joe should have pitched him more the last two weeks.
You could always use Lackey out of the bullpen - wait - never mind!!!

Terrible thread title. He isn't back until the Cubs sign him.

I am willing to change it.

I'd have to know the status of his hair at this time.

Sure, only if he takes a team friendly deal . He’ll win 11 games for you even as a 5.

If 5MM and the promise of a shot at the 5th starter, sure. But there are no guarantees for him into spring training.

But if you keep him, I think you need Heyward. You can't jettison his glove if Lackey is gonna let you hit the ball and make the defense convert it to outs.

I'm OK with him coming back as long as he knows he's a 5 with potential middle relief duty in his future.

No way he comes back without an assurance of a rotational spot.

I hope he comes back to the Cubs. He will suck

Absolutely not, his era will be 5 if anyone is dumb enough to sign him.. Somebody will if he will work for 5 million.

Let's look for someone who won't lead the league in home runs allowed for that 5th spot.

Yea, that's what I was thinking.

Although I wont be devastated if they do bring him back. He's a winner and good for the locker room. Who the hell is Lester going to talk to about hunting now that Jake, Ross, Lackey, and Travis Wood are gone?

Wow,what happened to Travis Wood last year? 3 teams with an ERA at almost 7 at each spot.

We should sign him as a LF. His defense would be an upgrade over Swarz.

Agreed

I am fine with him as a #5 for cheap.

He needs a team with a cavernous yard to bring down the HRA total.

Sign him and trade him.

170 innings of league average pitching isn't bad for a team with only 3 starters as of today.

All the metrics crumbled for him though last year. If he'll sign for 7-8 mill on a one year deal, the Cubs can always cut bait on him in June if he's terrible.

I think Lackey was a good signing. The Cubs got him at a good price and he did a credible job. That said, it's time to move on. He is at that tipping point, where the returns are likely to be less favorable in the coming season. But a good signing by Theo a couple years ago.
