That is a pretty pessimistic slant on it.

Since Jake had about as good a run as any Cub in recent history not named Ferguson Jenkins, I would say that is an optimistic slant.

I trust the Cub's assessment that Darvish will be the better pitcher moving forward.

You would be foolish to defer to "in Theo we trust" when handing out big FA contracts

Closer is still a chink in their armour

That is something that will be easy to acquire at the deadline, if it proves to be needed. Teams out of the playoff hunt have greater need for a decent prospect than a closer for a team going nowhere. Maddon has lots of new arms to choose from, it will be interesting to see how the bullpen shakes out.

who are the cubbie decent prospects?

If you had decent prospects you would have Chris Archer instead of Yu Darvish

And dolphin would then be criticizing them for the trade.

Ron Coomer had a fabulous interview on the Score this morning proclaiming that Lester was going to have a career year at age 34. Check it out. You'd totally love it dude!

Archer is 51-63 in his career. I heard that isn't acceptable. Especially to give up top prospects for.

I bet he downed a 6-pack during the interview alone.

About 7 months ago, your team traded one of the very top prospects in all of baseball along with their best pitching prospect for a starting pitcher that was 50-54.

You may not get it, but we're referencing the same thing.

And to think....that guy was a #2 on an AL team! Imagine how nice it is to have that same guy as a #4 on an NL team!

Coomer does not sound like the name of a person who would know about paczki

Tomorrow he will just be the Score donut expert.

Here's the breakdown of the deal:

2018- $25M
2019- $20M
2020- $22M
2021- $22M
2022- $19M
2023- $18M

Full no-trade for the first 4 years. To opt out after year 2 he has to do better than 4yr/$81M (+ incentives) at age 33.

Not a bad deal if he stays healthy.

Wonder what a creative 8 yr deal looks like?

Bob Nightengale

@BNightengale

Yu Darvish had several 6-year offers, and also a creative 8-year proposal, before accepting his 6-year contract with the #Cubs

I'll give you $100M for the next 4 years and another $100M 2038-2042

This was very exciting news when I read about it. I think the guy will be very good for us. He was good last year until game 7. I am very excited about the season now. It's just they need to find a real leadoff hitter. That's the only thing holding them back from getting back to the WS.

Darvish misstepped on a entrance to the spring training clubhouse. Broken ankle. Expected to miss 4 months.

This is a $124m retirement package. He is done.

This is what you get for forsaking Arrieta.

Yu will make a Scwarber like return during the World Series to lead the Cubs to victory. Or not.

If he retires due to injury i wonder if they can put in a claim and have their insurance pay for the rest of his contract. They would be fucked with the luxury tax but getting all that money back would more than cover it. I vote for retirement.
