They better get another closer by the deadline or after via waiver claim. Can't count on this guy. Even if it's Fernando Rodney. Get some insurance to supplement Cishek, Edwards and Strop.

wasn't brandon morrow always hurt before he became a super/successful reliever? hell, wasn't health one of the primary concerns with the guy coming into this contract with the cubs?

that said, i wonder if you wanna try and go overpay for a "proven closer" or if you're gonna be resigned to paying a premium for a reliever if you wanna try and get some n00b like kyle barraclough from the marlins? barraclough just started closing for the marlins a month or two ago i wanna say and has had a nice couple'a seasons... aged 28. or hell if you wanna get a younger guy you can roll the dice that detroit would move a joe jimenez (23 years old first arb eligible in 2021) and you'd have a big ol 6'3"/275lb bullpen guy under team control for a few years to be another "young gun" alongside carl edwards jr.

Wilson was the closer in Detroit before he got traded to the Cubs. Cishek has been a closer before, Edwards and Strop can close, though I would be less confident about Edwards, who is either really good, or can't locate and can be really bad. I feel les of a sense of urgency for another closer, than another starter, with Montgomery looking less than impressive in his last few starts, Darvish still not close to taking a start and Chatwood mostly shaky all season. I would like to know where Drew Smiley's at now. Has he begun pitching yet? Perhaps he could help in a bullpen role, if not as a starter.

Can CJ do it? he's been looking great since he came off the DL.

I wouldn't trust Wilson to do anything except choke. Cishek has closed but doesn't inspire confidence in the NLCS. Ditto Strop.

Gotta get another closer. Smyly should provide rotation depth.

To many outings were he has nothing. No way as the closer in the post season.

If you mean for now, I say that they can get by with what they have in house. If Morrow has issues they feel make him iffy for the post-season, then okay, I can see wanting insurance.

I seem to be in the minority, but I would trade Happ for a combination of starting and relief pitching.

I'm with you on that. They have a surplus of outfielders and I would like to see Almora starting every day.

And if you look at what they've traded - Villanueva has nearly 20 HR in San Diego, Candelario is playing every day in Detroit. I feel like Bote can take over the 3B/LF/1B bench role, and they can find a fast AAAA CF for the 25th spot in the playoffs in lieu of Chatwood.

I was actually thinking rescuing Austin Jackson from the Rangers DFA list.

Wasn't a fan of this signing to begin with. The way the Dodgers used him last postseason was a bad sign to me. Add in the injury history, not a smart move. Theo doesn't have a good history of paying for pitching with the Cubs. Morrow, Jackson, Yu, and Chatwood are examples of bad paper.
