Well when they decide to compete, he shouldn't be the manager. His bullpen management is atrocious. He doesn't know when to pull guys or who to use in what situations.

Neither did Joe Maddon, but they still won a world series.

If Ross ever gets to manage another postseason game as Cubs manager he'll be highly scrutinized. 0-2 record swept by the Marlins with a grand total of 1 run.

I seriously doubt he is in bottom 5. He is an average manager. not great. not terrible. The team seems to like him and still playing hard for him. Something to be said for that.

Either way I dont think he is going anywhere anytime soon. I think they see him as the manager of what they are trying to build.

Will a tanking manager be able to be respected considering the excuse making, undeserved praise, and hiding behind chemistry nonsense during tanking? He'll have to take off the clown's outfit and focus more on winning baseball games than deflecting tanking losing. I have a feeling he'll get the axe and they'll bring in a new manager at the end of the tanking. But there'll be hugs and praising of losing a great guy.

I think he's fine. Tom Brady proved managers don't mean much. Players play and the cubs suck.

Grandpa during his press conference picked an odd time (lost series to dreadful Reds, 2-8 last 10, 23 < .500) to praise Ian Happ's leadership, and tout him as a gold glove candidate. If Happ is so great an outfielder why can't he play CF?

Most corner outfielders can't play CF well. Lots more territory to cover. To be fair, he has improved dramatically as a LF and that is where he should remain.

Very possible. But MLB has the "shitty head coaches mean nothing" clause in their bylaws. So that's that. The NBA and NFL should follow suit. Life would be so much easier for their coaches.
