Gary Scott is definitely the most bitterly disappointed I’ve been in a Cubs prospect. I learned then that relying on prospects is a recipe for disaster.

Mark prior completely lived up to the hype when he came up. Injuries killed his career. Mark prior the prospect delivered when he came up to the bigs. Gary Scott was a bum after being pushed as the next great thing at 3b. I don’t think he ever lasted until May before being sent down.

He was bad. I actually respect the shit out of him after I recently watched a documentary on Kerry woods 20k game and he agreed to appear on camera to talk about the infield hit he let get through. Kerry vehemently defended Orie calling it a hit all the way, but Orie conceded maybe he should have gotten dirty to make that one.

Tore it up in spring training two years in a row and then absolutely sucked during the first month of those two years. Yeah, not sure he made it to May 1st. Plenty of other disappointments over the years (Dave Keltong) that never even really sniffed the big leagues or flamed out quickly but man.. That Gary Scott was something.
