This is a long thread originally sparked by some histrionics from Dan Rather. But if you aren't paying attention, you would believe that this eight year old girl is being destroyed by COVID. In fact, she is in the hospital for some other "medically complex" reason and just happened to test positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus- they test everyone- and so was moved to the COVID ward. She has mild symptoms and COVID really isn't a problem at all. But they want to turn society upside down because some kid who has health issues happened to test positive for a virus while being treated for something else.

I don't blame the girl's mother for being concerned or afraid. But for statistical purposes her daughter should NOT be considered a COVID hospitalization. And I suspect that regarding most of the kids "hospitalized with COVID" "with" is the operative word.

Here's what I do blame the mother for though. She's obviously trying to sow fear of COVID in kids. She was asked several direct questions about her daughter's condition and she danced around giving straight answers. Because she's trying to suggest the girl is hospitalized because of COVID. She's too honest to outright lie, but dishonest enough to lie by suggestion and/or omission.

The mother should be blamed for everything there. Don't act like COVID put your kid in the hospital unless COVID put your kid in the hospital.

Another example of the problem with paying attention to ANY twitter anecdotes. Just assume everyone on twitter is lying partially or completely about everything unless it is NBA trade rumors.
