There's no way they're paying Simmons to be a backup SS was my first thought at his signing. If there are no actual good player signings coming. It's still a tank. I'm ok with it. I'd play the "J -Hey Kid" as much as possible. He was a valuable tanking tool last year, and he'll almost certainly suck again contributing to a higher draft pick and actually having value dribbling weak grounders to the right side of the infield..

top free agents mentioned so far today on MLB rumors are Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber. Then Freddie Freeman and Carlos Correa. Don't know why people are still so biased towards former Cubs.

Rizzo's options are dwindling quickly. The Jeter-led Marlins would have been the best fit, but Jeter and the owner clashed and now the Marlins are being cheap again. He looks like a total schmuck for insulting the Cubs' offer last off-season. Now the Yankees have traded for Josh Donaldson and DJLM can play 1B, so that option is probably closed except as a rotational piece.

Yes, DJ played a fair amount of 1B a couple of years ago. Plus they still have Voit. So even without Rizzo, they have five primary infielders, three of whom can play multiple positions.

I don't, at least not this year. I could see Rizzo back in 2024 for a farewell tour as a bench bat and late inning defensive replacement, however.

This year will be about more flippable pieces and taking advantage of poor teams.

If they sign Seiya Suzuki they better be right. The last thing they need is long-term bad money. Hoyer was a voice in signing Jason Heyward to bad money. Then, spewing out propaganda in defense of the disastrous signing.

I think he's (J-Hey Kid) going to continue to work hard over the winter, and I think he's trying to regain sort of where he was offensively a few years ago. But listen, he's been a great teammate, a great defender. He's helped us win in a lot of ways.
