Heard on a podcast some teams are apprehensive about Bellinger's low '23 HardH%.

38.8% MLB avg
31.4% Bellinger
50.4% Morel
48.1% Suzuki

It has got to be painful when one Chicago team has an owner that publicly says they will not be signing the greatest player on the planet, while the other is actively going after him.

Cub fans belief in their pursuit of Othani reminds me of the Sox and Machado.

Yes probably true. But better than if they came out and said they are not even going to try.

Nobody really thinks they're gonna land him. If anything, they're driving up the price for some other poor bastard so they can't surround him with more expensive talent. He will not be a Cub.

Not every team’s biggest contract ever can go to Andrew Benintendi.

Looks like Wisdom is back, 1 year, 2.75M or thereabouts.

A cheap "journeyman" with slug, and plays multiple positions like Wisdom is valuable if he's at the end of the bench used when his bat is hot and to fill in sparingly.

The 3 pitchers the Cubs non-tendered have more upside when healthy than a lot of the pitchers on the White Sox 40- man roster.

God bless him.

a co-worker's nephew plays in the nfl and has said the nfl full pension (4.5 years) is $30k a month. mlb pension isn't as generous and wisdom's financial future is no longer in doubt. looked like a little-leaguer in a clutch late AB against the brewers in game #160, homered in no-pressure game #161. i wouldn't have brought him back.

$30k a month? That doesn’t sound right. Unless your co-worker’s nephew is Patrick Mahomes.

yeah...that's what he told me. 4.5 years of nfl service to be fully vested, not sure how service is determined. i'm sure his nephew has been told by the player rep/union correspondence and his agent about the fully vested $30k a month. i'm sure that goes up every year - cola. i'm not sure how he wouldn't understand his own pension....after all, he's a golden domer.

I wouldn’t have, either. I guess they could bounce him mid season if necessary with little cash loss at that salary.

He means $30k per year.

“Currently, a player with the minimum of three years of play would receive an annual pension check of $21,360 at retirement. [3] On average, retired players receive about $43,000 annually from their pension.”

Retirememt age is 55, but they can draw as early as 35.

i was told $30k a month. 4.5 years = fully vested. not sure (min amount of games) what counts as '1' year of service. his nephew may be taking it at age 65. he's in his early 20s now.

jeez...a retired chicago garbageman gets $6k month/$72k annually.

i found this, seems to be from the last nflpa's contract:

Quote:
under the CBA
Jeff Nixon
By Jeff Nixon • NFL Retired Players United
Dec. 13, 2014

And last, but definitely not least…..

NFL Pension Plan: $201,453 annually at age 65, or $76,920 annually at age 55.

Don't think the Cubs get him but I doubt they will be offering a deal with non guaranteed years triggered by plate appearances.

A retired city garbage man also put in 30 years working 11 months of the year for most of it.

no doubt...my whole point was that i believe the nfl pension is far superior to the mlb pension and that wisdom should be doing backflips with this 1 yr deal.

as it turns out, i'm being told that the nfl has a less generous pension than the garbagemen.

I also think you qualify for the minimum MLB pension after something well under a full season worth of roster time.

43 days gets you 1/40th of the pension plan. 10 years of service time vest you fully in MLB.

so much for non-tendering Wisdom. I don't like the way things are going here. Maybe they overvalue the kids they're bringing up?

Bruce Levine is now backing down from previously saying it's down to the Dodgers and the Cubs for Shohei Ohtani. I don't believe he even knew what he was saying. Story actually went national naming him as a Cubs insider.

Levine is no insider. He's just a sycophant that managed to get some air time talking shit and making excuses.

Levine whenever talking about Shohei Ohtani repeats a memorized spiel praising Ohtani for his value and the Cubs for being in the hunt. Somehow he mixed up the Cubs and Dodgers as major players as down to last 2. He never corrected the statement just pretended like he never said it and went back to in the hunt with a handful.

Today he told a similar Jesse Rogers story Ohtani refused to talk to him in the locker room. That Ohtani's rep told him he only speaks post pitching days that Levine wasn't aware of. It was the same exact story Jesse Rogers tells almost verbatim.

When at ESPN 1000 didn't Levine have a squabble with a competitor both claiming they broke the same story?
