(670 The Score) After several years of striking out in their attempts to sign key players to contract extensions, the Cubs have reached a deal with one.

Second baseman Nico Hoerner and the Cubs have agreed on a three-year, $35-million contract extension, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported Monday evening, three days before Opening Day. The deal isn’t of the long-term variety, but it does allow the Cubs to buy out one year of Hoerner’s eventual free agency. He’ll make about $20 million in the final season of his new deal, Passan reported. Hoerner is now under contract through the 2026 season.

Wick gets the David Bote treatment, gets outrighted to Iowa because nobody wanted to claim him on waivers when he's still going to get $1.5m this year.

Those are great clutch numbers. Read them again. Put the fork down.

his overall numbers in over 800 AB now are very average, despite cub fans trying to wish a star into existence

You are just happy because he's white.

Nicole is alright, he's sound defensively and gas some speed. Last year was really the first time he got some at bats..he's earned the right to get 550 at bats this year and show what he can do. I'm thinking .285- .345 .with 25 doubles and 15 homeruns.. 25 stolen bases.

Early in '21 Pat & Ron marveled at how much Nico Hoerner had bulked up. Subsequently that year (oblique/hamstring/ribs strains) 110 days on the IL. Hopefully that's behind him only 15 (ankle) in '22.

I watched less than 20 innings last year, probably about the same this year. That Hosmer signing is a fire worthy offense.

I'd rather see the young Jewish kid at first versus that scrub Hosmer.

Is this team going to be interesting or flat out bad?

I wasn't a fan of the Smurf last year, but he did rip Julie a new asshole on Twitter over the winter, so I am going to give him another chance. Go Stro!

No, he was already hitting on the back fields, he just didn't play at DH in the last couple of spring training games so they could backdate the IL stint. It sounded like he's going to stay in Arizona for another week and then go on a rehab assignment at either Iowa or Tennessee depending on weather.

definitely not the worst lineup I've seen.

Cubs sign Happ to a 3 yr extension

Quote:
The Chicago Cubs have locked up a core homegrown player. The Cubbies and outfielder Ian Happ have finalized a three-year extension covering 2024-26, the team announced Wednesday. The deal is worth $61 million and includes a full no-trade clause.

Interesting that he has a full no trade clause. I thought that was uncommon to do.

Taillon fits the mold they seem to be targeting, not a lot of walks and being willing to accept the solo homers in exchange for the control.

I agree that his fourth year will likely be painful, but that's the price of playing to actually win something.

Not winning much with Taillon on the mound at all
