I’m not really a fan of Ross and haven’t paid much attention to the Cubs the last couple years to say whether he was as bad as the Cubs threads here make it seem, but we’ll just see how many more wins the great Craig Counsell’s dynamic managing skills give the Cubs.

RFDC may be right, but there is precedent that has been set. There is zero reason to assume anything other than the Cubs fucked over Ross, just as they did Renteria.

This is a big move for them though. I wish my White Sox were this proactive.

Ross may have been a good clubhouse manager and willing to take suggestions from the front office, but he was a mediocre at best in-game tactical manager. That probably cost them the playoff spot that went to Arizona, although the Cubs probably wouldn't have gotten out of the NLDS.

And that probably cost Ross an extension, and as a lame duck manager it's time to go.

The Cubs don't owe Ross shit. He had no experience when they took him in and groomed him to be a manager on a fast track despite no credentials or resume

The Guardians just hired Steven Vogt to replace Francona. He wasn't even in their organization, he's just a lifelong backup catcher who seems to be smart and personable.
