You guys are clearly winning the division.

How about this scenerio to win that World Series after 100 years of bad.

Cardinals are the Wild Card team. That's a strong possibility. The East and West are weaker than people thought. That means the Cards, as the Wild Card, can't play the Cubs until the NLCS.

So you play the Cardinals in the NLCS and the White Sox in the World Series.

Now, if you lose to either one of those teams that will hurt worse than anything.

Nothing can hurt worse than '84 or '03. I have no ability to be disappointed anymore.

Careful... you may be unpleasantly surprised at a new low should that occur.

The Cubs are deft at finding new ways to fuck up. Losing to one of those teams would be painful at best.
My wife is a Cards fan and I'm surrounded at work by Sox fans. Losing to either one of them would be galling.

With the team the Cubs have, barring an inury, losing to anyone short of the AL Pennant winner would be a horrible failure.

With expectations of utter disaster, it is impossible to be hurt. I expect the worst possible scenarios at all times - anything short of complete and freakish failure is a bonus.

I had thought I had learned my lesson in 1984 but I was horribly mistaken. By the end of Game 4 NLCS in 2003, the Cubs were going to the World Series and I couldn't believe. I didn't even care in the least that they lost Game 5. There would still be no doubt about the outcome.

I will never expect anything ever again.

For a while.

I'll make the scenerio better.

Mets in the first round.

Cardinals in the 2nd round.

Sox in the World Series.

The Cubs will lose all 3 series.

If the Cubs lose the WS to the Sux, I'd have to leave town. There is no way I could look at any of those morbidly obese, hygenically challenged, 1st grade drop-outs if their team beats ours.

Cubs fans getting the rug pulled out from under them and a football to the groin are two comedy scenarios that never get old.

Barney's movie had heart. But 'Football in the Groin' had a football to the groin.

I do not want the Cubs and Sox playing each other in the Series. The six county area would be swamped with meathead douchebags for eternity regardless of the winner. yes, i am making a blanket statement for both teams fans.

You're putting the cart well before the horse. Scenarios are inapplicable until mid to late September.

The Tiny One would love this thread. Its June 3rd. Talking about the 2008 World Series is not bright as this point.

Its not bright to talk about it as an assumption, but I dont see the harm in talking about the possibility. The Cubs look like the best team in MLB, and I dont believe in jinxs.

I wouldn't be all proud of our history either.

For 88 years Sox fans would never get the girl at the end of the movie. We got the girl (playoffs) a few times only to find out the pretty girl had a penis (1983, 1993, 2000).

Finally, in 2005, Sox fans got to bang Angelina Jolie in the end.

Jolie is overrated, and the 2005 Sox were not overrated.

What's wrong with their port of entry? They both got to watch the game that way.

I've been hoping to see a Cards/Cubs NLCS ever since the wild card was introduced. Obviously I would be rooting for the redbirds, but if the Cubbies won and it meant they would get a World Series, that would be alright with me.

I like the whole idea. It would be wonderful to beat the Cardinals and then White Sox. It would make the experience of winning the World Series, as sweet as possible. I don't fear them losing to either one. It would be nerve racking, but I would just hope they would play to their potential and enjoy it. To those who feel it's early to be talking playoffs-you are right. But it's fun. That's what this is all about. Having fun, when you have a real good team that has realistic playoff potential. You have to allow yourself the chance to soak it up and enjoy it.

And I would want all the teams at full strength. I don't want to beat depleated teams, like the Sox did in beating the Red Sox, without Curt Schilling and the Angels, without Bartolo Colon, on their way to their title. I want this championship to be totally untainted. I give credit to the Sox for taking advantage and winning those series'. But the task was a bit easier against those teams, not having their ace taking part.

Tainted? What the hell are you talking about? They were 11-1 in the post season. Ya know, we didn't have a healthy Frank Thomas either. I think Shilling was healthy if I remember. He was gonna pitch game 4. Only the Sox fucked that up for them cuz they swept them 3 straight.

The 100 years of Cubs failure hasn't been tainted. I would never say that it was. Why do you have to say the Sox one World Series was?

Just another Cubs fan dying to diminish the Sox championship in any way possible. Yeah 11-1 in the postseason, Im sure they would have gone from that to out of the playoffs had Schilling and Colon pitched a game each against us.

I know. It's bullshit anyway cuz any Cubs fan would take a tainted World Series. The Sox 11-1 post season was anything but tainted. Steve knows that. Only the '98 Yankees have had an equal 11-1 run since the playoffs expanded. Maybe if Frank was healthy the Sox would have been the first to go 11-0 but that doesn't bother me.
