Although the Cardinals won their game behind homers from Albert Pujols and Rick Ankiel, Pujols injured a calf muscle and may be on the DL for a stretch. I saw the replay and Pujols had only taken a couple of steps out of the box on a ground ball he hit, when he stopped and reached down with both hands to grab his calf. LaRussa said it didn't look good and Pujols was flown back to StLouis for tests. If he's out for any prolonged period, it will surely hurt the Cardinals chances of staying close to the Cubs. Sometimes teams rally together after an injury to a top player, but rarely can a team withstand a loss to such a vital cog for a prolonged period of time.

I'm a bigfan of Pujols. I would like to see him challenge the HR record someday. He's (likely) a clean player and a honest gamer.

It remains to be seen how long Pujols will be out. But it certainly will be easier for teams to pitch to anyone else the Cardinals will replace him with. One major difference between Cubs fans and Sox fans, is that Cubs fans have the ability to recognize and acknowledge when their team gets a break. But unlike the Sox, who play in a division in which the second place team is 3 games under .500 and the third place team is 5 under, there are actually good teams in the N.L. Central. The A.L. Central is full of losers, just like the Sox fans who come to the Cubs section to post stupid crap.

Well, now with Soriano out-perhaps longer than Pujols, it looks like the injury situation is pretty equal. Hopefully, Theriot does a good job at leadoff and whoever plays in left does a good job, as was the case when Soriano was injured earlier in the season.

They are saying that Pujols will likely be out 3 weeks. Soriano has a non-displaced fracture of the 4th metacarpal. It should shelf him for 6 weeks, according to early reports.
