What happened to him? The guy was hitting really well earlier in the year, got some decent playing time at short and second. I think he's a blossoming talent but Lou's been cool with sitting him out.

Anyone know if he's been battling something or if he's just a victim of Theriot and DeRosa's bats warming up?

He's especially done well against lefties, so when they face another left handed starter, perhaps he will get a start. I am not sure why his opportunities have evaporated, other than Theriot is batting .316 and DeRosa .313 . It seems like Fontenot has gotten more opportunities of late than Cedeno.

Theriot is having a great season. It's been difficult to take him out of the lineup.

Fontenot getting more at bats boggles me, because the guys a strikeout machine.

He's a lefty. My guess is there are more right handed pitchers in the world.

Not according to the numbers.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/742 ... 74Yc6FCLcF

16 Ks in 88 ABs
which extrapolates to
91 Ks in 500 ABs

And he's walking a lot. OBP is a respectable .337.
OPS is .723 compared to Cedeno's .760

However, Cedeno is hitting against Righty-Lefty tradition. He's killing right handers and sucking against lefties, so right now it's not making sense to use Fontenot instead.

The part you're not applying in all your fancy "math" and "logic" is that I'm a dumbass. I based my "strikeout machine" assumption on his pinch-hitting of the last several weeks. If anyone has his overall pinch-hitting numbers, I'd like to see them just for the sake of knowing if I am a complete idiot instead of a blathering genius.

You could be right. He has seemed swing-happy lately.
