If they don't get a starter via trade, then maybe they'll give him a chance.

He certainly pitched well yesterday, and got out of more than one jam.
Yeah, he'll get a chance, especially if they don't pull a pitcher out of their asses before the 31st.

he's a good 4th or 5th starter, but they need a #2 or 3, due to Hill flaming out...I've always liked him but he was too close to Hill without the killer stuff...

the difference between Marshall and Murton is Murton cannot play center. being a corner outfielder requires more power than he had...he was far less needed than Marshall. but I'm with you on Marshall, believe me...

Hill has better stuff but Marshall being consistent kept getting overlooked. Lou always seemed to be looking for a guy to replace him. The same thing was the case with Murton. Just because he didn't have power he kept getting overlooked even though he was a contact hitter that used all fields.

Murton, career average, OBP, SLG and OPS... pretty solid numbers over 300 games or so. Trade bait. Let's get a pitcher.

Sean Marshall is better than Sabathia. Marshall has more saves this year than CC has in his entire career. Marshall has at least one win, hold, and save this year, that's like the pitching triple crown.

Sabathia is a starter, hence no saves.

Marshall got kicked around in his first start against Baltimore, before getting a pretty good outing against the White Sox. But the Sox struggle to hit lefties, as do the Cardinals, who he just had his best game against. I think Lou will want to see him have a couple more solid outings before making any judgement. Marshall, has done a pretty solid, if unspectacular job, when given opportunities. But guys who dont throw 95, or have nasty stuff, are guys who dont get a lot of appreciation. I would NOT want to see him pitch against the Brewers-who hit the crap out of lefties, even very good ones. Lets see what he does in his next two starts. I like the fact that he has been a good soldier and been willing to do whatever they asked of him. Whether that meant starting or pitching out of the pen-without any complaints or attitude. I think Lou does like him and will give him a chance.

Will he get a chance to keep his job? This guy has been one of their most consistent pitchers the last 3 years but never gets a chance to keep his job. For some reason Lou just doesn't trust the guy and overlooks his numbers. Who cares if he doesn't have great stuff? All I care about is a guy getting the job done.

I couldn't agree more. I was just thinking yesterday about how it was inexplicable that this guy always gets passed over for pitchers who are worse.

Marquis seems to be having a decent year this year. He belongs in a major league starting rotation, at least up to this point.
