I read in today's Suntimes that the cubs have to a Monday deadline whether or not to resign pitching coach Larry Rothschild.

First, I think Rothschild has skated accountability on many levels over his tenure hear with the Cubs. There have been some bright spots...but many dark clouds as well.

Once again...I think this TIMING reflects very badly on Hendry. Here we are in the middle of a managerial search, and the fucking pitching coach has his contract up before you even have a manager in place. What if LaRussa were coming? He's not of course...but I'll take Dave Duncan any day. What if Girardi wants the gig? The new manager is already going to inherit a hitting coach...he may want to bring in his own pitching coach. Ya think?

I dont know....I just wonder if EVER in the history of baseball a fucking pitching coach has survived through 4 different managers. Personally I think its time for him to go. That is my point.

The new manager is already inheriting the most expensive hitting coach in the league. This points towards it being Quade or Sandberg. Girardi is not coming to this team with his staff already in place for him.

Tenure? Feels more like he's been here fifteen-year.

I think he takes more grief than he deserves, but, it's hard to build a case for him being such a mainstay; a staple if you will.

Any way to steal Coop from the south side? The guy's a total goof, but he obviously has a strong track record.

Some say Rothschild is one of the top 3 pitching coaches in the game. While the starting staff did well last year, and has had some solid seasons, I think it is more due to the talent and less to his coaching. He could never get into Wood's head to stop him from throwing across his body. There are many cases of guys that have come up from the minors, had a decent start and then fallen off the map. Wellemeyer, Mitre, Leicester, Wuertz and Beltran come to mind. Samardzija has been awful. He didnt do great with fixing Marmol last year. I think they just need new blood at that coaching spot.

he's done great with Marmol...dont forget he came up as a starter who was terrible in 2006, and he's gotten him to be dominant

also Dempster was a reclamation project picked up off the scrap heap...he turned him into a good stopper and now a great starter

also look at Marshall's progress as well as the progress of the rookies this year

all the other guys u listed had no talent, as they havent done much anywhere else...except Wuertz...he was good with us and has done good in Oakland...that was simply a case of Bully Hendry running him out of town

This tells me the new Cub skipper is coming from within the organization.

Rothschild to return to Cubs for 2011 season
October 11, 2010 2:10 PM | 5 Comments By Paul Sullivan
Pitching coach Larry Rothschild picked up his option for 2011, the Cubs said Monday.
Rothschild will enter his 10th season as Cubs pitching coach, having outlasted Don Baylor, Bruce Kimm, Dusty Baker and Lou Piniella. Whether Mike Quade will return as the manager is unknown, but he was known to be in favor of Rothschild's return.
Despite improvement in the final month, the Cubs finished 13th in National League pitching this year with a 4.18 earned-run average, after ranking in the top five in each of the three previous seasons. They were also last in walks allowed (605) and fourth in strikeouts (1,268).
The relatively inexperienced bullpen had the second-highest ERA (4.55) in the league, despite finishing with 28 consecutive scoreless innings, while the starters ranked ninth at 4.00.

Why is it up to Rothschild? Tom Ricketts is a complete fool. Has he fired anyone since buying the Cubs, or does he just love everyone?

Because it's his option to pick up.

They talked about this earlier today on the Score. Handry gave Rothschild the new contract with his option under the Trib Co. Ricketts could've had Hendry fire him, but they would have probably had to pay him the option.

Cub fans need to understand that 2011 is going to be another year of getting out from the shit the Trib left over.

I didn't know pitching coaches had options in their contracts.

They do when they're handed down by an idiot for a GM.
