Being a Sandberg fan growing up, a part of me would have loved seeing Sandberg get the job.

But Quade toiled for a long time in the minors, and the team did play better at the end of the year, albeit with no pressure on the team. I am not jumping for joy with the decision to hire Quade, but I don't think it is a bad decision.

As others have said it really doesn't matter who the manager is unless Ramirez, Zambrano, Soriano etc can get back to their 2008 form.

Regarding Quade experience vs Ryno, i wouldn't put much stock in how much experience a coach has had in the minors or as a bench coach. Ozzie won a WS only after being coach for 3 years, Girardi was manager of the year after 1 or 2 seasons as a coach.

On the other hand Terry Bevington was in the minors for 7 years and on a major leage staff for 7 years before coming manager. And yet he was a boob.

I think you have either an innate abilty to manage or you don't (the right situation doesn't hurt either.)

This reminds me of John Paxson's rush to hire Vinnie del Negro instead of waiting fourteen days to interview Thibodeau.

Early word from my guy, not too Earth-shattering, that Hendry never considered Sandberg in any way and Sandberg knew it, but Hendry went through the motions for appearances.

I hope to talk to him in a couple weeks and find out if there's anything more.

I loved Lil Danny's theory that if Quade doesn't work out they can just hire Sandberg in a couple years. The Dodgers thought that way after fucking over Mike Scioscia ten years ago and he's not going back anytime soon if ever.

I hope your half-right. Quade seems like a smart baseball man,but we will see.
