Hendry once again showed that he is no match for the big boys

he just got pwned by Rothschild and the Yankees

as a result of this we will see Hendry's typical reaction in the coming days, and that is a flurry of Bully operations on players

If I was away from my kids for significant time during the year and was offered a job by a better company for more money and 6 weeks a year extra time with my family, Id take it.

Ahhh yes, the whole whats better for my family rears its ugly head again. What about the 4 months a year that you're off Larry?? that not enough time to spend with them?? Been here 9 years and you play half your games in Chicago, Im pretty sure you get paid enough to have a stabbin cabin here as well as your home in Florida, and can afford to have your family here. You want to leave? fine, but lets not start with the Ill be closer to my family when most people who work dont get the amount of time off that you do.

Did you want him to say holy fuck the Yankees want to hire me?! Peace out Chicago?

Kiss my black ass would have been fine. I don't blame him at all for wanting to leave Cubville.

Exactly. To the people who thought he sucked, the YANKEES just gave him a 3 year deal.

Does that mean he's good??

Here are the Cubs ranks in walks allowed in the 9 years RothSchild was pitching coach.

'10- 1st (most allowed)
'09- 9th
'08- 16th
'07- 7th
'06- 1st (most allowed)
'05- 7th
'04- 14th
'03- 2nd
'02- 5th

Only once did a Larry RothSchild coached pitching staff finish in the botom half of walks allowed. This is the guy who is supposed to get AJ Burnett to throw strikes?? Good luck with that.

Where did they finish in strikeouts those years? Gotta throw a strike (or a ball that looks like a strike) to get a strikeout too. What is the talent level of a Burnett versus some of those Cub pitchers? What was the bullpen like some of those years? I seem to recall a few starters walking guys and should have been removed, but weren't because the pen was full of absolute suck.

What was the name of the crack pot they had before Rothschild? The bull rider from New Mexico. I believe he's dead now. Given the options out there Rothschild was more than serviceable.
I don't know if he will become the second coming of a Jesus Christ type pitching coach in NY, but he was pretty decent for Cubville. I think that is about all you can ask for. Now he gets paid nicely and have a chance at a ring.

Certainly means he's not bad.

Plus, it's easy to pick stats that help any argument. Cubs strikeout totals in MLB (1st is good)

2010- 4th
2009- 2nd
2008- 1st
2007- 1st
2006- 1st
2005- 1st
2004- 1st
2003- 1st

Cubs Team ERA in MLB (1st is good)

2010 21st
2009 5th
2008 5th
2007 4th
2006 24th
2005 15th
2004 3rd
2003 5th

He was a good pitching coach. We are going to miss him.

That's a lot of pitches. High pitch counts. Shorter outings. More susceptible to injury. The Cubs need to find a pitching coach who preaches pitching down in the strike zone. Get outs early in the at bat and pitch deeper into games. No more 5 and dive crap.

And a committment to first pitch strikes that PC's like Duncan, Mazzone, and Cooper preach.

What about the fact that Hendry is going "in-house" for a replacement, meaning "save money". Typical Ricketts. Why not expand the search for the best available pitching coach? Isn't that the objective?? Not with this pencil pushing owner...

I think this team needs to go and snag Mike Harkey from the yankees. That would be splendid.

I'm still planning on retiring one day from my 50 count of Mike Harkey rookie cards. He was a Future Star you know.

Does this kill the dream of a Kerry Wood return to the Cubs?

We're dicked if the "in-house replacement" is anyone but Greg Maddux, and even he's an unknown commodity as a coach: all we have to work from beyond his pitching is that he liked to sit next to Sean Marshall in the dugout, and five years later, Marshall isn't a completely awful pitcher. I'm not ready for Pitching Coach Lester Strode.
