I don't think he gets a new contract when this one runs out.

The team has mostly gone to shit when he started dying his hair. That's when the narcissism train really got going.

Agreed.

He's got Almora leading off, and Baez 4th tonight. Rizzo has the night off. Carantini at first. Surprisingly, Contreras still catching after all those innings last night.

Joe would be considered a boob if he were not considered a genius

Not directly. They practiced it in spring training.

But Baez is the one who put the scouting report and the situation together, and signaled it to Contreras himself.

Where did you get that from? It wouldn't surprise me at all, as Javy is such an instinctual player. But I had not heardthey put it on themselves.

I think Joe really started to lose it during the WS. His response in the following year to fairly mild criticism seemed unusually aggressive and petulant. Since then it seems like he has been hell bent on trying to prove he isn't old and the game hasn't passed him by. Maybe he has always been this way but no one noticed or maybe he has never faced real criticism in his life.

Anyway, several years into his Cub tenure I think even the biggest cubbie chubby would agree that while he may be a good manager, maybe even one of the best, his real impact on the game is negligible.

The Cubs enter Friday’s game against the Pirates a season-high 11 games over .500, and they have installed a new leadoff hitter. Kris Bryant will get the first look at Pirates right-hander Chad Kuhl (4-3, 3.86 ERA) in Friday’s 1:20 p.m. start at Wrigley Field (NBCSCH, WSCR-AM 670). It’s the first time Bryant has led off in his major-league career; this season he has hit third 29 times and second 24 times. Here’s the Cubs lineup:
Bryant 3B
Heyward RF
Zobrist 2B
Rizzo 1B
Contreras C
Almora CF
Baez SS
Happ LF
Montgomery P

I know Bryant isn't having an MVP season, but what do you think about him hitting leadoff?

This is KB's punishment for going on Waddle & Silvy and stating that some players don't like moving around the batting order a lot.

I was ready to pounce on him yesterday when he brought in Cischek to face Altherr (after having done the same thing the day before and giving up the tying homer). It worked out though...guess he figured lightning wouldn't strike twice.

Just looking at the moves he makes I think it's safe to say that he doesn't handle pressure or criticism well. He appears to panic often. You would think winning a WS would change that but it hasn't.

At least he isn't to the level of Craig Counsell who routinely pulls his starting pitcher short of 5 IP if they give up even 1 run.

given the game situation and lack of RISP to that point, a manager pinch hits there 9/10 times. especially with the way the Cubs bullpen had been rolling until today

Doesn't matter, you don't pull Kyle Hendricks at one run over five innings/87 pitches.

The Cubs have 3 games in hand and are a 1/2 game out of having the best winning percentage in the NL. Joe sat Morrow for 2 straight saves and he is spreading the work around to everyone in the pen. Kyle had a shitty outing last time out and he probably wanted to pull him with a successful outing. 87 pitches is within reason.

CH, I can hear the resounding "Why did you bat Hendricks with a man in scoring position FIRE MADDON!" had he gone that route and Hendricks doesn't succeed at the plate. the correct move was going for the runs

In a lot of cases I would agree with you, but Mercer's egregious failure to turn the double play changed the entire calculus (uh oh, gotta be careful when I do Senor Columnist bits, someone might fire up the search engine and say that I'm racist against math) of the inning. With nobody on and two out and Hendricks up with the Cubs down a run, I'd be apt to pinch-hit for Hendricks and pray that Baez hits a home run. With men at first and second and nobody out, I'd rather burn the single out, advance the runners, give the top of the order men at second and third with one away to work with, and get a sixth inning out of Hendricks fresh off making two outs on three pitches. I'm a believer in "if you play for one run, that's all you'll get," but if there's a time for a little station-to-station ball, it's at home in crummy weather with four more innings to play for more than one run.

Madden was classic with Bernstein Tues 6-25. Bernstein tells Joe the texters, callers who are asking for more almora playing time are also asking for more playing time for Happ. That's totally wrong and makes no sense.

Joe again implies the fans are idiots and the strategy he uses is way over their head. He tells Bernstein professionals like him need to educate the little people not the reverse.

Madden says almoras actually playing every day. He fails to mention he's been pinch hitting cold off the bench on days he hadn't started.

Madden says professionals like bernstein should be controlling topics of conversation about the Cubs because he understands it better than fans.

I'm not making this stuff up.

Madden says people in the know should be telling people what's going on other than reverse again Joe repeats.

Of course Joe doesn't mention almora is batting 100 points higher than Happ. He doesn't mention the losing streak in May that coincided with a lineup change.

Again with praising Cincinnati that they played so good people are overlooking.

Joe needs to start wearing a clowns suit.

Madden is saying in so many words he's above scrutiny.
I strongly recommend listening to this podcast.

Short of them winning the WS, there is no way that Tom Ricketts allows Joe to get an extension this offseason. So he is going to go into 2019 as a lame duck.

If the Angels want to hire Joe this offseason, I think Theo will let him go.

I'm sure Joe would love to hang out in California and not really have to manage. Sounds like Eric Chavez is supposed to get the job but I'd love to see them bring Maddon back.
