what the hell are you talking about?

Im talking about the fact that Turd was clearly saying Arrieta was not some cast off (aka Lefty soft tosser) who just all of a sudden found lightening in a bottle. He was expected to be a top of rotation starter, he was just a late bloomer.

Turd knows Arietta is right handed. Everyone reading that knows what he meant.

Between this and your complete misunderstanding of Mully and Kasper's discussion, Im starting to worry about you.

their discussion did not included that it was that it was the best trade in baseball???? How much money you have Short Round? You didn't even hear it did you?

No.

Mully referenced Heyman, who made that claim, in the question. Kasper replied that he didn't know about that but that it was one of the best trades the Cubs have made.

Maybe you and everyone who has suggested he is throwing harder today, needs to come to grips with the fact that is not true. Just because one idiot says something like "he throws 5-6 MPH faster now than he did in Baltimore" doesn't make it true and worthy of repeating. It's not true and all these ridiculous accusations are baseless.

Taken from the Camden depot

Arrieta has actually seen an uptick in velocity with the Cubs. His fastball velocity jumped about 1 mph. He's throwing his cutter about 3 mph harder than his slider in Baltimore. And even his curveball has seen a 2 mph bump. Cutters tend to be late-career pitch additions, so it is interesting to see Arrieta add the pitch in his late-20s and also still see an increase in his velocity across the board. Perhaps that won't continue. But for at least one season, Arrieta pitched better than he ever did in Baltimore -- by far.

So the article I posted had him sitting between 92-98... When will i see this uptick and a 99-100 mph fastball. Everything I have ever seen said mid 90's fastball. That is still what he is at.

And big surprise his cutter is 3MPH faster than the slider, its a different fucking pitch.

no shit

So we agree there was no major velocity spike. I don't get it, your point is he now over throws a curve ball?

Here are Jakes min, max, and average fastball while in the majors. Screw the min/max values for small sample size or a hot gun. I'm basing everything off the last column, average velocity. I don't see the smoking gun for him that you want. The only pitch that increased in velocity the year he became a cub was slider. Everything else was +/- 1 MPH per year. That doesn't seem like a PED bump.

Season Pitch Pitches minVel maxVel Vel
2010 FA 543 87.4 96.3 92.8
2011 FA 911 87.4 95.5 92.3

2015 FA 537 90 97.2 94.4
2016 FA 111 91.2 95.9 93.9
Total FA 3639 86.4 97.2 93.2

His curve ball with the Cubs has averaged within 1 MPH of his 2013.
Season Pitch Pitches minVel maxVel Vel
2010 CU 250 72.1 82 76.6
2011 CU 323 73.4 81.2 77.5

2016 CU 47 78.2 86.5 80.8
Total CU 2081 72.1 88.3 79

His slider saw the biggest increase of 2MPH.

Perhaps giving a larger sample size that his fastest and slowest pitch each year, yes.

This is stupid. Players all over have agreed that since Arrieta's rookie year, he has had exceptional stuff and his fastball has REMAINED in the mid 90's. The major change has only been in his ability to command his pitches. That happened when Bosio altered his delivery.

So... the answer is yes, right? After hearing both arguments for 10+ pages here, it would take a jury like 7 minutes to bring back a guilty verdict.

his slider went from 85 in 2010-11 to 90 in 2014-15.

The only other guy to accomplish anything like that in the past decade is Kershaw. 150 or so guys in sample set.

2 did it.

The answer is "Case dismissed due to a total lack of credible evidence".

Inadmissible? Non-existent?

Yeah, Turd Ferguson did make a compelling case by posting all of these stats that indicate that his velocity went up on just about every pitch. His strong argument in agreement with Hatchetman basically locked it down for me.

I was never a pitcher, but I believe its typically not a max effort pitch. You throw it toward effectiveness. Also it could be explained by our very own Walt's link where he stated he quoted a Baltimore message board saying he added a cut fastball with the cubs. The cutter is thrown at a speed between a slider and fast ball. PitchFX may counting those as sliders, there isn't a category for cut fastball.

Hey Turd,
Can you post the pitchfx of a pitcher you think did start using steroids?

I don't its up for debate that he is improved on the Cubs. I also don't think adding or subtracting 1 MPH a year is earth shattering. The offseason isn't there where he packed on 30 pounds of muscle and added 4MPH to his fastball. Not sure what more you want.

I was busy watching the team with the best record in Baseball win yet again. But I saw where they won and Sale gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits through 8 innings. Like the Sox are 2nd to the Cubs in record, attendance and popularity, Sale is just not quite up to Arrieta's level. But 2nd best is just what you have to settle for....
