What is it that makes grown men act like asswipes when foul balls fly into the stands?

I have season tickets at the Cell and I was out at the game on Wednesday afternoon and in my section 145 (3rd base-line above the tarp) we get a lot of foul balls . We had guy's flopping onto people , dropping beers on Women and knocking kids down for $6 dollar baseballs . Does it mean that much to get a baseball?

I've caught several over the last few years and I hand them to kids but I don't make a mad dash or jump over people to get them .

I'm I out of line with my bitching here ?

Out of line? Hell no! I think it's all about winning something. Look at how people go insane over those crappy free Tshirts the Pride Crew toss into the stands. I remember several seasons ago, they used to toss rally socks into the crowd before the game, and you'd think there were gold bars being tossed into the stands.

As individuals, people are generally intelligent and harmless, in groups, we're stupid. Anytime someone's giving something out for free, it brings out the worst in people.

One minor correction, those stupid balls sell for like $15 now, still no excuse.

I'm right there with you Ed. Yesterday on PTI, they showed some fat slob crawling on the ground to try and grab a foul. Of course his ass is hanging out of his ill fitting jeans. Did he just have that ball, so he could put it on his mantle? Last year I thought I was going to have to get into it with some drunken assclown who kept bumping into my 11 year old nephew. At a Joliet Jackhammer's game no less! I don't get it.

I've been on both sides of this point. A ball always seems like a cool thing to get. However, I have caught a couple over the years including one during the playoffs. I have no idea where it is now.
