Yep, Quintana was the 8th best pitcher in baseball from 2014 to 2016 in fWAR and 2 games under .500. Solid.

Dunning should be considered a huge success if he has a career close to Quintana's.

Dunning's had 2 blowouts which is par for the course with rookies. I imagine fangraphs takes that into account. 12 runs in 6-2/3 innings against the White Sox and Angels(#4 and #6). 2.85 ERA on the other 10 starts.

Cherry picking? Sure, but it shows that most likely that 4.26 will come down. And yes, fangraphs ranks him 32nd. Ahead of fellow rookie Casey Mize, which seems impossible. I know there are fans of Fangraphs here, Shout out to Yasmani.

Hey Bill James, How many games did the Rangers play last season?

Lynn rolling through another start. He has kept the pitch count low enough that he'll get the ball in the 7th.

Was efficient enough in the 7th that he probably goes out for the 8th

Lynn is old enough that be probably doesn't need more than 3 more years. The White Sox really have to sign him because as much as I like Crochet, he isn't going to be stretched out to give them 175 IP between regular season and playoffs until probably 2024.

Lynn understands TLR, he seems to like it here, and he should have at least #3 starter quality seasons in 2022 and 2023 along with eating innings to reduce the stress on the bullpen.

Lynn posted his lowest spin rates since 2018 in the previous game. Not a good sign...

At some point he’s going to revert back to his baseball card . This shouldn’t be unexpected .

Since 2017, he's won games at a .586 clip, posted a 1.29 WHIP, Struck out 9.4 per 9, with 3.82 ERA, 15.7 WAR

That's fine with me.

Fine by me too. But it's also a bit alarming to find out that Lynn might have been gluing his fingers. I went from ehhh to him being my favorite pitcher in MLB.

Maybe. I'm willing to give him another start or two. I certianly didn't expect him to be at a .700 win% with an ERA under two in September.

I hope the spin rate drop is an anomaly. I'm getting pretty tired of baseball disappointing me with cheating.

On one hand, I agree.

On the other, for MLB to open this can of worms during the middle of the season, directly after a goofy 60 game season, kinda sucks.

Based on his 162 game average that means he goes 7-7 rest of the way giving up a run and a half more per game but ok.

Meh, the guys he's pitching against will have the same problem. Sox should score more too.

What he's been doing with a 2 seam fastball is pretty amazing. I'm not going to happy if I've been hoodwinked....but I'll get over it.

Hes been the same guy since he came into the league. Guys dont generally add velocity/spin as they get older. He's 34 and having a career year so far. So did he just figure something out or is something else going on ?

That's a great deal for the Sox. Lynn gets more than that on the market

That's not bad at all. Especially the club option for 2024.

Quote:
Throughout his career, Lynn has battled weight problems which have affected his conditioning. The better shape he has been in, the longer he can go in workouts, and thus, the longer he can effectively pitch in single games and throughout the entire season. To improve his weight and conditioning, he conferred with fellow Cardinals starters Chris Carpenter, Wainwright and Jake Westbrook about their in-season and off-season preparations methods in the 2012–13 off-season. He obtained team strength and conditioning coach Pete Prinzi's help in formulating an offseason training regimen to address his lapses and stimulate weight loss. The Cardinals also sent team chef Lusky to spend a week with Lynn and his wife Lauren in their home, where he showed them better methods to select and prepare healthy food.[12] Lynn also replaced favorites pizza and beer with more water and vodka.

Jeez, let's all cross our collective fingers that he doesn't go from the vodka back to the pizza and beer diet and pulls a Darryl Kile on the Sox ffs.

Yeah its obvious he likes the Sox and the Sox like him. At his age he probably wasn't expecting a ton of years, which is usually the type of commitment the Sox are uncomfortable making. Don't think Rodon is sticking around, though I'm not sure this deal really changed that situation at all.
