Sox had their chances with bases loaded and only pushed one across. Last night was a game that doesn't bother me as much because it was well played on both ends. Valdez and the Astros pen was just better. Stanek made two great pitches to Moncada in the 8th, and the Astros turned a brilliant double play late. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap.

Splitting this series after winning the first two games in the fashion they did would be a killer. Giolito needs his A stuff today, and it wouldn't kill the Sox to hit a couple balls out of the park. Obviously today is not not a must win mathematically, but its about as close as you can get to a must win game in mid August.

The lack of power is what concerns me about their first two wins of the series. They are not going to sustain any sort of winning pace by needing three or four hits in one inning to score one run.

I was there. The kid was wearing one of the special Police/Fire caps they were giving out last night. His dad is probably a cop. The kid is definitely a future City worker.

Sure. A 3-1 fastball center cut and just above the belt is a great pitch, Lucas.

What a chode.

he might not even make the playoff roster should they win this year

at least he keeps us from having to spend the afternoon paying attention

four months ago he was rejecting sox offers boasting that he knew what his market was

Playoff roster? Unless he pulls his head of his ass every fifth game, he's likely to cost them a playoff spot at this point.

Now he gives up a leadoff double. You have to yank him now if you want any chance of winning this game. TLR leaves him in and its gonna be 6-0 or 7-0 real soon and a series split which is brutal considering where things stood Tuesday night.

Frank, you have to learn to appreciate guys who can get through shit with guile, rather than raw talent.
Which of the 9 outs that Giolito covered did you appreciate the most today? Which of the 5 runs (and counting) that he gave up did you appreciate the most today?

Giolito is a huge bust at this point.

No, he's just a guy (like Javier Vazquez) that you don't want pitching with your season on the line.
He's a #4 or #5 starter.

If that equates to bust....ok, he's a bust.

This post is retroactive to 2 hours ago:

Sox will lose this game.

They are horrible in home day games during the week ( getaway day). Always come out flat and the games are over in 2 hours. It's the weirdest thing but never fails.

Plus Houston has their best pitcher goin'. They will bust out their bats and hit some homers today. To make up for being held to 7 runs in the first 3 games.

7 ER over 3 innings plus during one of the biggest series of the season. One way or another this was going to be a statement game.

Season ERA back up to 5.34
Jerry should demand his $50K back

I checked out after the 3rd run. I was hoping for more, but this is who Giolito is.

Hopefully, Lynn continues to pitch well and Cueto and Cease continue pitching well. It would be cool if the offense scored enough where there wasn't so much stress on the starters.

I fucking hate Josh Donaldson, but boy was he right about Giolito.

It's not sticky anymore.

Might as well let Sosa or Gonzalez pitch today before they're sent back to the farm.

I quit watching a long time ago, but keep getting the score notifications popping up. Are they at least going with position player pitching at this point???

Not as of the last Stros homer. That was a Jose Ruiz special.

Yes and yes.

The fact that Lucas is a head case doesn't help. He pouts and loses his composure, and then three runs turns into seven.
