For the the simpletons, Baez chose Detroit over New York, not Chicago. The Cubs wanted nothing to do with him.

I can forgive the White Sox for wanting a full time PBP guy. And I understand Jason wanting to further his career nationally.

I don't see it as the black eye people think it is.

Somebody else will have more details but I recall he did say this once about some TV gig he wanted but was never going to get, like a 10pm sports anchor or something.

He most certainly did. I do not recall the specifics, but it has been talked about on the board here many times.

The Tigers' press release says that Jason is going to do "at least" 127 games per season, and their radio guy Dan Dickerson will slide over to TV for the other 35.

Didn't see this one coming. This franchise has some intense issues.

Agreed.

I really didn't like the guy's work on Sox games. But the Sox need all the publicity they can get, and Benetti gave them a lot of that.

I saw it somewhere else, but part of the issue is that he wasn't good on baseball as a whole. Too much down time to be goofy. Basketball and football are his definite wheelhouse.

I think most of the backlash, mine included, is an overall reaction to the current state of the entire franchise. Combine that with no hope for the future, and fans are tired. They are cutting salary, and I have no doubt that everyone they sign this winter will be cheap and past their prime (if they ever had a "prime"). I would love to be wrong, but I doubt they sign a single player that we all look at and think "this guy will be a big part of the team when they're good" (if they ever become good...)

Specifically regarding Benetti leaving, my fear is the Sox will replace him with Beckham, because he'll be super cheap. Even with 100 losses last season, I watched a lot of games on TV. I turned them off when he was working.

I don't find that acceptable just like I don't find Stoney's monthly vacations acceptable.

If the Sox want a guy for 155+ games, thats fine. I agree there.

Its just everything with the organization. This move doesn't pass the eye test. The Sox deserve zero benefit of the doubt. This was Benetti's dream job, and even he can't deal with this circus any longer. Its not like he went to a marquee team like the Yankees, or Red Sox. Or a really good NL team like the Braves or Phillies. He's going to another AL Central team that hasn't won a playoff series in ten years. And he'll be calling April baseball in 30 degree weather in front of a few thousand fans at times just like he was here.

And if the Tigers gave Jason a big raise, then the Sox were probably lowballing him anyway.

I agree. I thought he got too worked up over mundane plays. I found him and Stone to be almost silly in some of their attempts at humor. But it is weird to leave for Detroit.

Personally, I don't think he is a very good announcer. I admire his going through life successfully battling his ailment. I just think that he is pretty annoying in a lot of his broadcasts.

Perhaps this is a possible indication that Reinny is possibly going to sell the team or move it out of Chicago? They are sure to continue shaving overhead and pay-roll.

I think it's more likely a way to ease Stone out without having to fail to renew his contract.

The article seems centered on an emotional appeal to TA’s personality. I didn’t hate the guy as a player - I still think he’ll hit .300+ more often than not - but his shortcomings are well documented. I’m fine with them clearing the way for Montgomery.

It is sort of odd that someone hasnt signed him by now . You’d think every general manager in the league would be salivating at the prospect of him having a return to .300 season for their team. I guess there’s just not that big of a market for Jackie Robinson these days. Might as well be the 1930s again.

Depends on where Passover, Sukkot, and Yom Kippur falls.

Not this time, but he did praise Mitch for letting Score talent take side gigs. Mitch understands that letting Laurence host the Football Aftershow or do weekend sports on channel 5 is excellent promotion for the Score.

I may be in the minority but I like Benetti. I think a team of Vin Scully and Mel Allen would have trouble making many of the Sox teams in recent years sound better than a Patriot League broadcast. Reinsdorf might as well just go ahead and hire McKnight, one of the dullest and least funny but cheap guys around. Just add on to the steaming pile of dog shit the organization has become.
