With all these kids plus Robert, reasonable expectations will be a solid second half next season, if the kid pitchers have heart

You Sox fans hoping things fall in place like the Cubs rebuild. Yeah, good luck with your timetables. Ask Pirate or KC fans how long they watched their rebuilds. The first group of Sox rookies might all bust. The next move is to hold onto them or give up on them for the following season. Tough decisions are ahead for management. The Cubs were lucky it fell into place for them. After 108 years, luck was finally on their side.

This is partially correct. The Sox don't have the luxury of playing in the suck ass NL, where there are only 3 or so good teams. It is going to be much tougher for the Sox to do this than it was for the Cub.

Sox also have dumbasses in charge of their rebuild instead of Theo. That's also gonna make it a lot tougher to succeed. Unfortunately many fans are happy about this, which means these same idiots get years more to fail before being replaced. It's gonna be a long road ahead.

True. These are the same guys who thought Adam Dunn and Adam.LaRoche were good free agent signings. Ergo, I remain skeptical.

2018 opening day

c Omar Narvaez/Kevan Smith
dh Nicky Delmonico
1b Jose Abreu
2b Yoan Moncada
ss Tim Anderson
3b Yolmer Sanchez
lf Rymer Liriano
cf Tito Polo
rf a man

1 Carlos Rodon
2 Lucas Giolito
3 Reynaldo Lopez
4 Ian Clarkin
5 Spencer Adams/free agent??

bullpen will be a smattering of a bunch of spare arms from around the system, Fulmer will get his shot at it.

The Sox system will be silly loaded though, and you'll have an entire outfield on the way over the following year. Jimenez RF, Robert CF, Rutherford LF...bang. Also, a lot of arms will be coming.

Since this mostly marks the end of the sell off its a good time to inventory. The Martinez return does not bode well for Avi, and Swarzak probably wont bring much more than a Charlie Tilson type.

1 Jimenez
2 Moncada (he graduates tomorrow so...)
3 Robert
4 Rutherford
5 Giolito
6 Kopech
--top 30 cutoff--
7 Hansen
8. Dunning
9. Collins
10. Lopez
11. Cease
12. Burger
13. Adolfo

Then its just an army of rhp and outfield breakout candidates. There are a few notables like Seby Zavala and new addition Tito Polo who could really come on hard.

Sox have the strongest group of minor league outfielders and right handed pitchers in all of baseball right now. Their strengths at those spots is unmatched. They are OK at catcher with Collins and Zavala. The corners are weaker, but by no means bad. Sheets, Burger and Delmonico are a decent group.

They are very weak at MIF after Moncada and LHP, even with Clarkin, is almost non-existant.

Shields will be the #2 and if there are going to be that many young pitchers on the team, he may have value as a mentor.

When you talk about the young OF you have to include Adolfo in the conversation after breaking out this year

Irony is the Sox will need to package some youth in 3-4 years for a top-of-rotation starter. Is there a guy in the next 2-3 drafts that's projected to be a stud so Hahn can acquire one without a trade?

They could draft best pitcher available given this year's record with all the position players they have acquired.

Gotta move Lopez up a tad. He is going to be on the roster, opening day next year.

It's not about who will get there the fastest it's about who will have the most impactful career.
