Legit in Jerry's mind. Not legit in this big boy league of free agency. Some team will be willing to top any other offer. That team isn't the White Sox. Jerry is not sitting at this poker table.

This is the guy who sends Benny the Bull to recruit NBA free agents. He is not in the big boy league and is universally despised by players in both sports.

Uh, that's not it dipshit. I don't want a player who deliberately spikes first basemen and doesn't hustle.

Cash and to be the face of the team. Getting in on the ground floor doesn't hurt either. Ask Lester about that.

Agreed. This one isn't hard to figure out. The White Sox have essentially little/no payroll. These players are entering the prime years of their career and are very rarely available. The White Sox can overpay for one or both of them and allow them to re-enter free agency again. If the Yankees, Phillies, Giants, etc. can offer $30M plus, the White Sox can probably go as high as $40 million on one (probably not both) and kick-start the rebuild.

Personally, I don't think this team is ready to win next season if they add Machado, Harper and a free agent starter.

Will Harper ever match his 2015 stats again?

Lester was signing on for Theo and Maddon, Hahn n Ricky are inept clowns.

I get it. They also won't end up with a consolation prize like Donaldson or Moustakas.

Donaldson off the market.

I also wouldn't call Moustakas (in particular) a consolation prize. A healthy Donaldson could be better than either one of these two.

Harper/Jimenez can carry a lineup if they both stay healthy and the rest of the lineup just gets on base at a league average clip. Getting Harper means abandoning this silly Yoan Moncada farce to put in an actual baseball player like Madrigal and reevaluating what they want out of other positions. Basically a lineup of D-and-OBP guys, which they basically have none of so I dont get it.

Either way the rebuild is in a death spiral and the only way to pull out of it something massive like a Bryce Harper. Whole thing is failing.

You really need to recruit Harper with something other than $300M+?

Maybe they can send Ribbie and Rhubarb along with Thome to recruit Harper.

Cubs must be totally flying under the radar if there is interest from them. Perhaps they think they can sign him without a big public showing of recruitment.

No, they jus they can’t match the firepower of sending the dynamic Jim Thome ( guess Ventura wasn’t available ?)who can really speak to the White Sox experience with all those years spent here to recruit . It’s like having Coach K in a high school seniors living room. Game .Over.

That was, like, a quality anti-Sox dig--complete with the egregious punctuation mistakes which don't backfire on your attempt at cleverness at all. See, this is why we need a Post of the Day running thread.

I have no clue if the Cubs can truly afford Harper, but I do wonder if some reporting is just making assumptions that the Cubs will be involved vs. having any actual sourcing.

I'm hearing the White Sox are offering by far the most money but he also has to shoot his dog.

I feel sorry for our Sox friends, they are getting their hopes up and will be left without either one.

What’s the largest contract the Sox have ever made? Abreu’s 6/$68M? No way they drop $250M+ on someone.

They were willing to change the market for Albert Belle. Uncle Jerry made Jordan the highest paid player in NBA history for 20 years. He'll spend money for the right players.

He owed MJ - who was the best player in history and made Jerry a success. My point still stands. He’s not cutting that check.
