I've always compared Abreu to his recent predecessors. Big Frank is hands down a better hitter, and I always assumed Konerko was a better hitter, but this thread caused me to take a closer look. It's unfair to compare the counting stats because of career length, but as for the rate stats: Ba OPS OPS+ Konerko .279 .841 118 Abreu .292 .864 135 Just looking at the numbers over a six year sample, Abreu is the better hitter. |

Maybe but if so it is very slight. Konerko was a better power hitter and defensively better than Abreu. They both were in the top echelon of first basemen in the league and just below HOF consideration (Abreu albeit doesn't have the longevity yet). |

Abreu has spent his ENTIRE career above an .800 OPS! But clearly I'm only referring to the '5.5 years out of 6 years' his entire career to that point and IMU can reconcile it however he feels the need to. |

He used to be one of the top first basemen. He and Yu Darvish actually have very similar career trajectories. I hadn't even considered their similarities but you nailed it. |
