A two game series? What happened to sample size?

Can we have a Reynaldo Lopez thread please?

Floor has fallen out from underneath Abreu's OPS in just two games against the Cubs.

Giolito's smoke and mirrors are over.

Tim Anderson and Yoan Moncada have come back down to earth.

McCann, Nova, Yolmer and Leury were the best performers for the White Sox in the series. Doesn't say much about the rebuild, if we're being honest.

Despite the excellent trolling, the question still stands. Can we have a Lopez thread?

I appreciate the effort but I think it needs to be a new thread for your magic to work

The baseball expert has never seen an OPS drop from.830 to .808 in a week. Might be time to recheck his credentials

The "objective" baseball expert.

Even by trolling standards, IMU's posts are a shitshow.

.807. His OPS doesn't drop by the week. It drops by the minute.

I've always compared Abreu to his recent predecessors. Big Frank is hands down a better hitter, and I always assumed Konerko was a better hitter, but this thread caused me to take a closer look. It's unfair to compare the counting stats because of career length, but as for the rate stats:

Ba OPS OPS+
Konerko .279 .841 118
Abreu .292 .864 135

Just looking at the numbers over a six year sample, Abreu is the better hitter.

It’s somewhat fascinating to see a self proclaimed baseball expert learn how OPS works in real time.

Maybe but if so it is very slight. Konerko was a better power hitter and defensively better than Abreu. They both were in the top echelon of first basemen in the league and just below HOF consideration (Abreu albeit doesn't have the longevity yet).

Sorry I'm late on this. Back under .800 for the light hitting 1B.

I must admit that I thought he would crest .800 at least once more this season but it is looking less likely by the day.

Is an on base percentage under 30% good?

He'll finish over .800 (barring injury), so you don't need to worry about Abreu anymore.

I am anxious to find out if Abreu or Eloy can claw their way over an 800 OPS.

5.000 OPS in the 9th down 1. Maybe give him some extra credit? An A+++?

Abreu has spent his ENTIRE career above an .800 OPS!

But clearly I'm only referring to the '5.5 years out of 6 years' his entire career to that point and IMU can reconcile it however he feels the need to.

Abreu used to be a very good hitter. He used to be one of the top first basemen.

He and Yu Darvish actually have very similar career trajectories. I hadn't even considered their similarities but you nailed it.

 Nope.

Since Yu's trade to the Dodgers:

Yu 1.1 WAR
Abreu 4.6 WAR

Besides, if you're slugging over .500, does OPS really mean much considering he was never a walker?
