That is encouraging. Hopefully they will have a governor on him that will prevent him trying to throw the ball through the back stop. Any pitcher has only so many pitches in his arm and this kid is truly blessed with a cannon of an arm. He needs to ration those pitches. The thing is being able to control whatever pitches that a guy has and to try to get the pitches to move late. Any decent major league hitter can hit a 97 mph fastball if it is straight. I've got my fingers crossed about Kopech. IF he makes it as a good starting pitcher or even worst case a shut down closer, that trade that got him over to the Sox along with Moncada has got to be considered one of the greatest trades in baseball history for both teams involved.

Some Boston writer is speculating that the White Sox will sign JD Martinez. Just speculation.

Not another, but a much better one. The Sox could use a guy who fills out the stat sheet and actually takes walks. Think of another Abreu in the lineup, but one with a a high OBP.

What they are actually going to go after and what they need to go after, are two different things.

Quote:
CHICAGO -- The White Sox named Frank Menechino their new hitting coach on Thursday. Menechino, 48, replaces Todd Steverson, who held the same position with the White Sox for six seasons from 2014-19.

Menechino spent last season as the hitting coach for Triple-A Charlotte, his first as a coach in the organization. Under his guidance in 2019, the Knights led the International League in runs scored (792), ranked second in on-base percentage (.352), slugging percentage (.472) and OPS (.824) and third in home runs (208).

Among the players Menechino coached at Charlotte were catcher Zack Collins, infielders Nick Madrigal and Danny Mendick and outfielder Luis Robert. Robert is the No. 3 prospect in baseball, as ranked by MLB Pipeline.

Prior to joining the White Sox organization, Menechino spent five seasons (2014-18) on the Miami Marlins' Major League staff -- three as the assistant hitting coach (2014-16) and two as the hitting coach (2017-18).

I suppose it makes sense to have the hitting coach some of these younger guys did well with?

They are grooming Omar for the position, not sure I see that happening until the end of the season.

I reckon they wanted to hire Vizquel to replace Robin but knew it wouldn't look very good.

I just don't get where all this Omar Vizquel grooming is coming from. If he is being so well groomed, why aren't 8 teams with open jobs beating down his door.

I guess it is because the White Sox are so fucking obvious what they are doing. The entire baseball world knows that Reinny will not agree to an outside manager and will "groom" his own guy for UNDER THE MARKET VALUE for a baseball manager. The entire baseball world knows this. If anyone thinks that Reinny would ever pay major bank for an executive, that person is NUTS. Now, I think Vizquel will have a good chance of being a good manager. But come-on. He'll be the guy because it is the Reinny way. DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON PROVEN TALENT in the managerial ranks.

Why else would you be moving him up through the ranks with what you thought was going to be a Spanish influx of talent that is turning into just Robert? I believe, He will be the manager in 2021.

He may be but there is a guy named Mercedes who I believe will be a stud hitter and is a decent catcher. He is playing in the Arizona Fall league now. I thought that he was going to get called up in September. When you look at the next roster, there will be a couple of more Hispanics on the team via the minor leagues and also via trades.

Because he applied for the job and they hired him?

If he's so great, why did they extend Ricky last offseason? If he's great, 8 MLB teams will interview him for their open jobs. Or are you saying teams will go, "no, hands off, White Sox are grooming him for 2021." Or will Omar tell teams, "Sorry, I'm getting groomed for 2021, I'm not interested."

The bigger possibility is Omar is just like every other minor league manager out there, just trying to learn the craft.

Saw Robin in Camelback in March. Sporting a shaggy beard and looks like he gained quite a bit of weight. Didn't look too good.

We can dream I guess. There is no way I can be against signing one of the best hitters in baseball. I still say that they need two good left handed starting pitchers(minimally one) no matter if they get Martinez or any other hitter.
