Good grief, Jerry. You get a stadium damn near rent free!!!

Instead of wanting 4 "can't miss" prospects you take a lesser package since they're "free".

Die already.

So instead of getting better players in the back of the deal like Groome or Travis they took the money. Cheap fuckers.

Jerry FUCKING Reinsdorf ladies and gents...cant believe it. You add Swihart to this deal and being something I can stomach, but I guess that's not important.

Yep. And at $100 million Sale is still underpaid.

Jesus Christ, people, calm down, here is the tweet (from a guy who gets paid to write and talk about baseball, mind you):

Image

1.) Half of the "$63 million deal" was a penalty paid to the MLB for exceeding the signing pool allotted for the Sawx.

2.) The "$31.2 million left" is the bonus money the Sawx agreed to pay Moncada for signing with them. He is otherwise on a standard minor league contract.

3.) I don't think bonus money from an international signing can be transferred as a balance in case of a trade, as it is not salary. Red Sox were on the hook for it either way.

This is merely Bruce Levine being an idiot, and your outrage could be quelled by a rather easy google search.

The fairness of this deal rides on the 2 other prospects they got. It's looking like they would have been better off trading with the Cubs or any other team that would have mixed youngsters with at least one proven veteran. Instead the Sox got two maybe's and two afterthoughts.

Pretty much everyone agree the other two prospects are terrible and won't ever be good. Sox got fucked hard on this.

Maybe finally the Sox can rebuild in peace for a couple-three years and then jettison into the upper echelons of the MLB, while the Coob are still within their current win-now window. If so, we live in exciting times indeed. Crosstown World Series 2020.

HOYER. SAID. HE. DID. NOT. WANT. TO. TRADE. WITH. THE. SOX.

Trades between geographical rivals do not occur often. Did you know the Dodgers and Giants have only made three trades over the past sixty years?

I feel bad for Sox Nation today. You just don't trade elite talent for 2 decent prospects and two throw in's. I would have rather kept Sale.

Wasn't he supposed to pull at least one All Star caliber position player and a slew of can't miss prospects?

Needed one more piece like Devers or Swihart to make this a good deal. I think Hahn heard "Ok, we'll give up Moncada" and just said yes. If Moncada isn't an absolute monster this trade will go down as one of the worst in MLB history.

and honestly, how many second basemen end up being monsters?

They traded Sale for a non impact position everyday player

I'm gonna guess he actually ends up playing third.

Nope. The Chairman puts it in his pocket.

No one goes to the park anyway. Might as well tank and pay less salaries.

From the look of his highlight films, I'd agree with you. He doesn't look or field like a second baseman. He looked serviceable.

I can't wait for the uproar when they leave him in minors for the first 7 weeks of the season to push back arbitration.

Would it be appropriate to re-conjugate his name to Chris Sold?

Ok, seriously now: You guys realize the Sox couldn't negotiate to pay or not pay Moncada's bonus money, right? You realize that, like all deferred payments, they are not transferred when a trade occurs, right? Which is how the Red Sox are still paying Manny Ramirez and Adrian Gonzalez, the Mets Bobby Bonilla, etc. Are we clear on that?

Last time the White Sox had a top rated system I believe it was because of the highly touted Jon Rauch. That worked out great. Good thing they rushed to trade Sale. Red Sox winning the World Series again. Great.

Not to pile on but reaction from fans on a few Red Sox message boards is about 98% positive.
