That is encouraging. Hopefully they will have a governor on him that will prevent him trying to throw the ball through the back stop. Any pitcher has only so many pitches in his arm and this kid is truly blessed with a cannon of an arm. He needs to ration those pitches. The thing is being able to control whatever pitches that a guy has and to try to get the pitches to move late. Any decent major league hitter can hit a 97 mph fastball if it is straight. I've got my fingers crossed about Kopech. IF he makes it as a good starting pitcher or even worst case a shut down closer, that trade that got him over to the Sox along with Moncada has got to be considered one of the greatest trades in baseball history for both teams involved.

Michael Co-Pitch will be a decent pen arm, at best. Maybe Farnsworth?

Based on what, pray tell? I can't wait to listen to what you base that prediction on? He's got a plus plus arm. And he has decent to very good off speed pitches. He is one of the highest rated pitching prospects in all of baseball. I think that the notion that he is going to be lucky to be a pen guy is wishful thinking from a Cub fan and nothing else.

I watched him at AAA in 2018 when they played in Indy. He 100% has the stuff to start games, the problem was he looked REALLY bored pitching in AAA. I think it was a waste having him down there most of that year.

Interesting. Did you get any sense by watching him in Indy that he would be any kind of a head case or have temperament issues?

On the mound, no. He seems to say all the right stuff.

The Chicago White Sox have traded catcher Welington Castillo to the Texas Rangers, who might not exercise an $8 million option for next season and allow him to become a free agent.

Texas also got an international signing bonus pool slot worth $250,000 in the deal while sending minor league infielder and outfielder Jonah McReynolds to the White Sox.

Castillo's deal includes a $500,000 buyout for 2020. The 32-year-old catcher hit .209 over 72 games last season -- his second with the White Sox and 10th in the majors.

The 23-year-old McReynolds hit .239 in 56 games with Advanced Rookie Spokane.

Giving up International money so you don't have to pay a $500,000 buyout...

Whatever. Having Castillo gone automatically makes this team better.

I agree, but he was going to be a FA.

The elephant in the room this White Sox offseason. Jerry is not going to spend enough. White Sox need a Cole or Stras, won't get one.

If there were some precedence of Jerry actually spending(like last offseason), I would buy into this theory of the Sox saving money here and on the Nate Jones deal and using that money for another FA. But we all know this is penny pinching.

Why do the Sox seem so desirous of giving away their international money when all their biggest names right now are internationally signed players?

They do not need a Cole or Stras. They need two good starting pitchers. Preferably left handed starters. The upcoming year is not the title year. It is the year where they make the play-offs and then the real fun will begin. The 2020 season is the next step not the end. 2021 is where they become the legit World Series contender. Its going to be great fun to watch.

They get two average lefties they will do well next year in the way to 2021. Other teams in this window position have shown giving unnecessary huge contracts too soon can be problematic.

Yep. The Padres sure come to mind.

Fuck that guy. So happy he won't be our "big free agent signing." 30 starts and 150 IP. how is that even possible?

That QO is at least 2.8 higher than I would have liked to pay him but there is some added value to not having to sign him long term.

Bleacher report said they were still trying to work out extending Abreu so that bite isn’t so big up front.

I don't get that. This is the year they definitely have payroll flexibility. Give him 15 and a mutual option for 10 with a $3M buyout.
