Dunning pitching here Friday. I hope he does well so I can keep saying, "we traded Lance Lynn for Lance Lynn".

We going to extend this fat fucker or will this trade look even worse in 2022?

Motives aside, am I supposed to root "against" Lynn because the Sox gave up a young arm to get him? That's why the posts above yours were dumbfuck posts.

I liked Dunning and hope he has a long career with a lot of success, except for when he pitches against the Sox.

You spiked the ball on Nardi for questioning trading Dunning after one good game by Lynn. Trading Dunning wasn't the only only option. Spending money now when you are supposedly in your window means you don't have to deal your trade chips in the off season.

Also, there was Snell and Darvish that were gotten for less. But that's subjective, I guess. What I considered giving up A LOT for an expiring contract, many didn't. Time will be the truthteller.

I think the prevailing sense was that Lynn was a proven deal, and Dunning was not. This could be one of those trades that works out for both teams. Yes, time will tell.

I thought it was decided after opening day. I mean Lynn threw a shutout. Case closed.

Oh. Well then in that case, those 3 good starts from Dunning makes it case closed the other way.

Dunning is pitching well. Lynn is on the DL. Dunning is 26. Lynn is 33. Lynn's contract ends this year. Dunning has 6 more years of team control. They could have spent money.

 Talk about spiking the ball. The guy made 33 starts in 2019, 31 in 2017, 33 in 2017, and lead the league with 13 starts last year.

Dunning can throw it in a teacup. That's been proven. Those guys don't grow on trees. What isn't proven is if the arm can hold up.

Apparently my throwaway snipe at Nardi after a great Lynn start was quite triggering to some. My apologies

You picked one piece of the post. Talk about being dishonest. Why was it better to trade away Dunning rather than sign a free agent?

92? That barely gets you to the big leagues these days. Yeah, he has good command. That's his game.

Isn’t that the first priority for a pitcher, command your pitches?

Like I said, I'm not enamored with "stuff". But command is only gonna take a guy so far. I like the odds that Dunning isn't going to be a Maddux or a Buehrle. I'd be way more afraid of trading Cease or Kopech and having them turn into a Giolito or an Al Leiter or something than I am of Dunning being Brad Radke.

My favorite quote on stuff vs command was from Orel Hershiser. He said “ You’ll hear pitchers say I had great stuff and got shelled, but you never hear a pitcher say I had great command and got shelled.”

Yeah, but the guys that consistently have great command are few and far between. And it helps to have "stuff" on the days when the command isn't there.

Back when they were both in their prime a popular Cubs/Sox argument was whether Wood or Buehrle was the better pitcher. Of course, the modern fans who think Ks are everything thought it was a silly argument. It was certainly silly. Just not in the way they thought. But Buehrle had exceptional command and on the rare occasions when he didn't, he didn't last long. Wood's big stuff could cover for a lot of sins.

Bottom line: I think Dunning is safer than Cease or Kopech, but the chance that he might be truly great is less than for the other two.

I don't ever remember the Wood- Buerhle stuff. Wood was probably the most over rated Cub of all time. His best year? 13-6?

So far this trade has directly yielded one win for the White Sox.

Dane Dunning may still end up being a good pitcher, but this will still be a good trade for the Sox. Lynn has been better than advertised.

If Dunning was on this team, he would have the highest ERA among the starting pitchers.

Any fan that thinks Kerry Woods was even close to the pitcher that Beuhrle was should be beaten .

Totally agree he's better than advertised. He makes guys look awful. I LOVE how he attacks, attacks, and then attacks some more. He wants hitters out of the box as soon as possible. He's a nightmare for hitters like Grandal. And that's 1/3 of the league.

I've definitely fallen hard for Lynn.

It's also looking like the Sox picked the correct pitcher to give up on between Cease and Dunning.

Cease has got almost 250 innings under his belt. He SHOULD be better at this point than a rookie.

But I do think, if every other young pitcher pays attention, that Lance Lynn is everything you want in a veteran. He goes hard and he doesn't fuck around with pussy looky-loo hitters.
