Probably. But he won't get the chance. I expect Hahn to be gone soon. Fucking White Sox.

Tony LaRussa, Lance Lynn, Adam Eaton. This should all feel familiar to White Sox fans.

But it is not what the GM wanted. Hope it works out.

Time to let go of this idea that all the bad moves (and I don't think is one) aren't Hahn's fault. He's not the GM you've dreamed up in your head the past 4 years.

Exactly. Is Hahn all of the sudden the guy who never made a wrong move and any signing of a player Sox fans dont like or might be bad a decision totally out of his hands ?

I think it's pretty obvious that Hahn didn't want LaRussa. I'm not sure what the hierarchy/politics of the Sox front office is and they play really close to the vest, but I'm pretty certain that Hahn's power has been diminished with the LaRussa signing regardless of how much Jerry might claim that not to be the case.

I don't care about the clubhouse stuff. Who even knows what's true. Same thing about players "liking" LaRussa. Who cares? Play ball.

My beef is that he appears to be in decline, gets injured often, and stops them from getting a better player or seeing if Engel could be that guy. And it seems like a typical Jerry/Kenny move- go cheap and hope to get lucky.

They weren't getting Springer for both internal and external reasons.

Everyone else was going to be a player with some warts.

I actually think this is great for Engel. He becomes the LHP side of a platoon, expanding his role from last year. He has hit .313 and .303 in consecutive years against LHP. He also hit well against RHP last year but it was the first year for it and in limited action. Maybe he continues his development and grabs the full time roll for 2022.

What are the reasons they weren't getting Springer? And I like Brantley better anyway. I don't consider this a big move. It's just typical of the Sox.

Bibgo.

Always looking for the stopgap instead of identifying a guy you like for a long time and going to get him.

If Hahn had any balls he would've left after LaRussa was hired if he didn't like it.

Yup. If this isn't your team then resign and go look for another GM job. Otherwise, your signature is on all of these transactions -- it's your team.

The LaRussa thing has Jerry all over it. We have no proof though that he didn't make a good case that Hahn agreed with or else as was said he should have left.

Whatever. I'm not a fan of Hahn. I don't fetishize general managers. I root for players. I wanted to be Dick Allen, not Roland Hemond. I don't care who you assign the recent moves to, but they look a little schizophrenic when you consider them in light of the past several years of rebuilding.

I felt bad for Hahn when the LaRussa stuff started coming out. It obviously wasn't the direction he was talking about afte the season ended.

Once he stayed, though, that ended. I had to assume he was in board with Jerry's direction.

Eaton in LF
La Pantera in CF
Engel in RF
Eloy DH

Thats an incredibly impressive defense outfield.

I probably have an irrational level of hate for the guy, but I can't believe that we're assessing this signing through the lens of Adam Engel. The guy is a fourth outfielder, period, end of sentence. If you're relying on him for anything more than being a late inning defensive replacement or a Sunday starter, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Probably. But he did put up a 120 OPS+ last season. It's not that I don't want someone better than Engel. It's that I'm not sure Eaton is currently that guy.

I think he has developed from a 4OF specializing in defense into a legitimate platoon player against lefties. He's hit .310 against LHP over the last two years.

I was in the same boat with you on him. I thought he had no business in MLB. Then, suddenly his glove became excellent about three years ago and he was an accetable 4-5OF. Now, his hitting against LHP has become acceptable for a platoon. I don't think his growth is finished even at that.

Obviously the bat never plays as a full time RF. He will never have the power nor other attributes to compensate for the lack of power. I wouldn't be surprised if he is someone's starting CF down the road.
