Even when Robert isn't getting on, he's getting into deep counts.

Last year pitchers figured out they just had to throw breaking stuff out of the zone and he would chase. He's taking those pitches all day long now and forcing pitchers to throw him strikes. He hasn't hit for as much power yet, but with his speed I'll take the singles and doubles as he's a good threat to steal and score. The power will come as he continues to make solid contact.

Collins is great at blocking balls and throwing out runners, but he is awful at framing and you can see a notable difference in the calls pitchers get when Yaz is behind the plate instead of Collins. If I wasn't a believer in pitch framing before, watching the 2 this season has made me one.

That's not to say Collins can't still learn that aspect of the game, but Yaz has value even if he isn't the best at blocking balls or throwing out runners. Those extra strikes are more important over the course of a 9 inning game than an instance where runners move 90 feet.

Framing wouldn't matter if MLB went to a robot strike zone, but we aren't there yet
