If Engel is on the team post 2019, it's as a backup.

'The Midget' hit .303 in 43 MiLB games this season.

His slugging lower than his OBP. He really MUST be a midget.

Power will come. As long as he gets on base and plays that defense he will be a most welcome addition.

I actually read somewhere that he will greatly benefit from the juiced MLB baseball. Sheesh

I still am wondering how this is going to play out at the MLB level. Not sure how swinging at everything is going to work. What is going to be his walk rate? Is he going to be a leadoff hitter? How is that gonna work out?

From Baseball America: Nick Madrigal, 2B, White Sox. Madrigal went 4-for-4 to finish a fascinating first pro season. So far as a pro, Madrigal has shown he can make tons of contact and almost never strike out. He struck out only five times in 173 plate appearances. But his all-contact, all-the-time approach meant he was almost entirely a singles hitter. Madrigal had only seven extra-base hits (all doubles) and a puny .045 isolated slugging percentage. It was a very solid pro debut as it's hard to knock a .303 average, but going forward Madrigal is going to need to drive the ball more.

I'd put him on an offensive lineman program. 4 hours in the weight room and 5,000 calories a day. He's gotta get a lot stronger. Or they can just hope the juiced baseballs turns enough of those singles into doubles.

He'll use his feet to get some doubles and triples, but even then its not a big deal. They have plenty of power, what they need are guys who can be on base. Madrigal does that while being a great baserunner and great defender.

Madrigal is going to have to tone down that leg kick in order to make more solid contact.

I beg to differ. Not in the big boy league. He's going to have to hit the ball more than 200 ft.

But I haven't seen him hit so I have to ask. Is he a slap hitting midget? If not, there's hope.

At the game last night they put a blurb up on the jumbotron about Dylan Cease and one of the pro guys turns around and says "that's the best minor league pitcher I saw all year."

Without seeing any footage, I would confidently bet he's a slap / singles hitter. I'm fine with him being Juan Pierre, if his defense is good. There's plenty of power elsewhere.

Why? Leave Yolmer at 3rd and bat him 8th.

Moncada has more upside. Yolmer is a utility guy.

He has to prove he has more upside. Yolmer was a 3.6 WAR guy last year and a 2.6 so far this year. He's not really utility. He's a bonafide MLBer. I'd like to have better at 3rd, but I've got no complaints. I will if they just hand Moncada 3B.

I didn't realize Yolmer's WAR was that solid. Where is that ranking amongst 3B?

To the overall point though, Moncada is going to get time elsewhere at some point. Where does he rank at 2B for WAR?

I don't care what his WAR is, 7hr 50 RBI is not going to cut it at 3B. He 100% is a utility guy.

That's fine. What's Moncada? Less than utility guy?

Moncada is 23. Stop trying to call him a bust.

Normally, I think that he might be slotted in as a number two hitter.

Moncada has the tool set to play 3B. That is clear. He has a great upside to be a very good major league player. He just needs more experience. Yolmer does not have the same tool set nor the upside. I don't know if Moncada is going to be a high BA player but he will have good power numbers as a switch hitter.

If you're going to take Sanchez' job and give it to Moncada based on upside, you better trade Sanchez or else there's going to be a shitload of trouble in the clubhouse. Sanchez has earned his spot, Moncada hasn't earned shit, and everybody in that dugout knows it.
