I don't know about any other year, I'd have to look
But 2016, his best year, he was unlucky. It's baseball. Remember Thigpen? Record amount of saves while every ball was smoked at somebody or hit to the wall and caught? A bum got 50 saves. It happens

He was better than what his record.said. Archie Manning was better than what his record said. Shit happens. When you lose lose 12 games snd your buddies score 22 runs, it's on them.

That's what I disagree with. He was EXACTLY what his racord said. Over 285 starts he couldn't be anything else.

What's more logical? That he was so unlucky over a long career that his teammates refused to hit when he was on the mound even when they were good offensively? Or that the conditions of a lot of those games were such that they didn't foster offense, thus Poor Jose and the allegedly lesser bums he was facing didn't yield a lot of offense?

I agree, Jorr. His W-L record speaks for itself. Large enough body of work. He's....meh.

I don't follow football so I don't know. Is the point that Stafford was good or that he sucked?

FF hated Matt Stafford. Thought he was basically Kirk Cousins.
When the Rams gave up quite a bit to get Stafford as their QB, he doubled down and said this would bite them in the ass.
Stafford had a great 2021 season and led the Rams to a Super Bowl Championship.
FF still has yet to fully acknowledge Stafford's greatness and publicly take the L on this one

Quintana had MANY games where he gave up 1 or 2 runs, and the Sox scored 1 or 0 runs. Those games were blended with the handful of stinkers he had in the minds of people who didn't want to like him. In reality, Quintana gave up 3 or fewer runs in the overwhelming majority of his outings with the Sox. The Sox scored 2 or fewer runs in most of his losses.

So basically he faced a lot of pitchers who were better than he was on the days he pitched.

It's not always black and white. The Sox had a shit offense.

In 2012 Quintana was 6-6 and the Sox were fourth in runs scored.
In 2013 Quintana was 9-7 and the Sox were last in runs scored.
In 2014 Quintana was 9-11 and the Sox were ninth in runs scored (about league average).
In 2015 Quintana was 9-10 and the Sox were last in runs scored.
In 2012 Quintana was 13-12 and the Sox were eleventh in runs scored.

He seems to post about the same record regardless of what kind of offense his team has.

Gerrit Cole is 10-3 so far this season.
