One game doesn't tell you anything. But if Cease pitches the same way he did tonight against 33 various and sundry guys and comes out with a losing record and the Sox have a better than average offense, then maybe there's something more than luck involved.

When you can only last five innings you put the game in the hands of other guys. There's no such thing as "run support." Valdez didn't lack "run support." Saying he did is an insult to Cease's effort. He ran up against a guy who pitched his ass off. And vice versa.

I think it’s fair to say that Cease did less to help the Sox win tonight when compared to the Astros bullpen. Cease isn’t so much a good pitcher as other pitchers are worse than he is.

I think Bummer is tipping some of his pitches. His issue is that he can't throw his sweeper for a strike and hitters lay off of it and sit on his fastball. If I were Bummer, I'd be working on lessening the break on his sweeper or throwing it a bit harder?

Cease pitched a terrific game. Seldom do you see a guy throwing three great pitches for strikes. Shame he didn't get the win but the other guy was great also.
Romy looks like a keeper and Colas had a nice at bat. They left a helluva lot of guys on base but Vaughn redeemed himself with a great hit.
