You think that it's within kennys skillset to 180 on his team building philosophy in a single offseason and rebuild effectively? I don't think so. Usually, when a total rebuild is necessary, you need a new GM. Since Kenny is pretty much still GM and Hahn is his lapdog, they'd both have to go.
Makes sense. Other teams engaging in a successful rebuild needed to dismiss and rebuild their front office first.

Isn't that ultimately what you want to hear?

You should know by now that Darkside completely loses all ability to converse rationally whenever the White Sox are mentioned. Dude loses it even if you're agreeing with him.

Yup. This is the White Sox clubhouse attendant dues thing all over again.

Why are Cubs fans so angry? At least IMU was just harmlessly trolling.

I just meant that if you take the Cubs' three highest yearly salaries off the team, the Cubs are still winning the NL Central by many games and are still competing for the best record in baseball.

Rick is very sensitive about the Sox. You have to approach him carefully, like a wounded animal.

Pick one, Rickster. Are the Cubs horrible spenders who pay too much for free agents, or are they to be denounced for their success because they spent too much on successful free agents?

Originally, I thought Rick was saying that only to point out that the White Sox will not spend what the Cubs have spent. Surprised by the reaction that followed.

Probably got a few thousand dollars more in the coffers with the stadium name change. Things are looking up for the southsiders.

Agreed. Plus, if you guys have a few gold chains, your sponsor will probably give you 30% of liquidation sales or 70% of an advance on your next paycheck!

Just one free agent signing was horrible. Try to keep up.

10 out of 10 baseball fans agree that savvy drafting and a couple well done trades put the Cubs into the position they are in today.

The free agent signings were then used to fill a couple of small holes. They certainly did not spend their way to their current position.

That is all. There is no valid contrarian view.

Back to discussing Rick Hahn.

....and nearly doubling the payroll. There is no argument otherwise. Do you think the cubs spent 70 million more for fun?

Yup, that had nothing to do with it.

What specific signing were you lamenting here?

So you think the Cubs free agent signings are the main reason for their success?

Ah Brick and Farvio are just trying to push Cubs fans buttons. It's what Sox fans do. Farvio is SHOCKED about what he's seen in this thread. I mean, he's just amazed at what he's seen. Wow. Crazy.
And brick. He's just going to take a pot shot at the Cubs because he is upset at what the Sox GM has done over the last 10 years or so. Understandable. I would be upset too. Hell I was pissed about the shit Hendry did, and he was a GM who really DID try to spend his way to a title.

But enough of that. We don't want to shock Farvio any more than we have to. His heart might not be able to stand this type of talk.

I was just surprised that you flipped out when Rick mentioned one fact about the payroll. No hyperbole necessary.

The Cubs began spending when the draft picks arrived. What's the argument? Did people think they weren't going to spend money? This isn't Tampa, they are following the Red Sox playbook to the letter. Smart trades, good drafting and spend when you think it makes sense.

I guess they are saying that when you're finally ready to go for the championship run after 5 seasons of rebuilding you shouldn't spend more than the seasons in which you were rebuilding?
