White Sox fans... the first year hurts the most. After that, you'll start seeing progress throughout the minor leagues... and you'll be excited in those improvement and developments. It will help bridge the 2-3 seasons it takes to become contenders.

I was getting close to the breaking point... was approaching Pasta levels of anger/impatience. Now it seems like it never happened. I could care less at this point

Not really. I will be disappointed if this core of players never wins a WS but all the winning and fun of the last two seasons has erased those crap years. Plus I'm banking on a few more seasons of lots of winning.

They could have won 11 last year and not won the WS.

What? I thought Lester and Heyward suck?

And: http://www.stevetheump.com/Payrolls.htm

And what do Arrieta, Hendricks, Rizzo, Bryant and Russell make combined? Not even $30M a season?

The plan has put the Cubs in the best position possible to win a WS. Of course it may never happen. All of us realize that. But I am completely happy with what they have done and how they have positioned themselves for the next few years.

You guys sure are touchy. No doubt drafting and good trades helped. So did spending huge money on many other players.

That site seems off. Every other site has them as 6th in MLB in payroll mostly going off the sportrac numbers.

In 2 years, with no major resigning of any players, the Cubs payroll went from $83,046,356 to $154,575,168.

Yup, that had nothing to do with it.

That almost doubling your payroll in two years was also one of the things that got the Cubs to be good.

Post subject:  Re: Fire Hahn

And what's your point? That you should only be a winning team with a low payroll?
Or are you saying that they should have players that are paid less than they're worth?

Is your claim that they're buying championship runs? Cause, usually... championship caliber players are pretty pricy.

Anyway, that payroll is really top heavy. Very top heavy. Most of their best production is coming from guys with fairly modest salaries.

But still I think your point pretty much sucks. The Cubs obviously have a ton of guys they've drafted or developed that are performing at a high level and they've made some nice trades and free agent acquisitions. Which I don't suspect the Sox are capable of doing.... which was essentially my original point.

I'm saying if you are going to humble brag about how the Cubs built their team you should mention that they nearly doubled the payroll in two years rather than just acting it was done by "draft well and trade properly".

I didn't say it was wrong. If it wins a title then I wouldn't care if they spent $1 billion on payroll.

Cubs fans just have this weird obsession with letting everyone know all the time how they did such a great job building through the draft and trading well and then they get mad when you point out that they also doubled payroll.

All I did was add a third thing they did to get really good and you went all crazy about it.

Funny you should say that because at no point was I saying anything at all a out how the Cubs built their team. Odd that you would read that. First to mention the Cubs was you. This is all quite odd. Have you suffered any upper body trauma recently?

I read him as saying good for you, they recognized what need to be done, the first days are the hardest days (don't you worry anymore), and I just added that I wouldn't trust Kenny and Hahn to make decent draft picks and trades and you quickly lost your shit and went off on the Cubs payroll for some reason.
It's weird. We were talking Sox. Then you lost your shit. It's odd how you Sox fans get triggered. I assume it's part of the inferiority complex.

No.

Anyways, if anyone wants to think it had nothing to do with the Cubs then that is fine. What I said is still accurate about how in the Cubs case they also spent a ton of money.

OK. When you calm down start a Cubs thread to discuss your Cubs problems.

Until then in this thread I'll just stick to Sox talk.

I wouldn't trust Kenny or Hahn in a rebuild scenario... a few reasons why:
Kenny's drafting sucks.
They love over the hill washed up free agents.
I'm not sure Kenny has any ability to evaluate pitching and he doesn't know enough to ask for help.
Their scouting blows.
The minors need a complete rebuild. That means 3 to 4 years before they've acquired enough pieces to trade around into more or better pieces.
This team has been fucked by 10 years of buying bad pieces and just maintaining 500 or so and that means you don't get draft spots and you don't become a desirable place for free agents. They've raided whatever they had in the minors and there's nothing left.

So that is clearly a troll job. I can't even take it seriously.

If they trade Sale and Quintana in the offseason they could have one of the best farm systems in the league without even trying.

Assuming they do it right.
I don't know about Hahn. He might be a screwup, he might just be under jerry and kennys thumb. But I wouldn't trust Kenny to not fuck it all up.
